The first recorded baseball game took place in 1846 between the Knickerbockers and the New York Baseball Club. Amateur baseball games became more popular and frequent in the 1850s. In 1857, 25 amateur teams formed the first organized baseball league called the National Association of Base Ball Players. In 1869, the professional Cincinnati Red Stockings were formed and went undefeated, starting the trend of paid professional players.
