Barry Krevoy says, “I love the mortgage industry,
because it’s the kind of business where you can
make a real impact on somebody’s life.” His desire
to affect others in a meaningful way has always been a
motivator for Barry. At only 17 years old, he left his home
in the South Bay and joined the Marines. After serving
overseas, he returned to the U.S. and was stationed in
Tustin.
After his military service, Barry tried his hand at sales
and found that he had a real talent for it. In 1986, he
took his first job in sales, selling rare coins and pre-cious
metals. “I immediately won awards, and in the first
month, I earned more money than I had ever made in my
life.” As a result of his early success, he was recruited
to a series of companies around the country that special-ized
in rare coins, precious metals and art. Eventually, he
became a top producer for the nation’s largest precious
metals dealer.
Finally, he was recruited by Novastar Mortgage, and in
his second month of being in the business, Barry was the
#1 loan officer at that branch. Within six months, he was
a sales manager overseeing 60 loan officers.
Once Barry found his niche, he applied himself to
learning his craft from the best. “I have read everything
by Warren Buffett and Dale Carnegie that I could get my
hands on. Buying a home is a big deal for almost every-body.
I think one of the things that makes me good at this
business is that I’m not jaded. I understand that a home
represents someone’s family, and decisions like where
their kids will go to school and their future retirement are
all wrapped up in this investment. There are not a lot of
professions where you have the opportunity to bond with
people in such a short period of time. I enjoy being the
guy who gets the hard stuff done and then gets to deliver
the good news.”

At Alpine Mortgage Planning, Barry found a culture
consistent with his own beliefs about customer service.
“The staff here is incredible. I have an assistant who will
hold the client’s hand right along with me and make sure
that their experience is a pleasurable one. We also have
great processing and underwriting. The main reason why
I came to Alpine Mortgage Planning is that we really do
have the best in the business.”
That support allows Barry the freedom to provide his
clients with optimum service. “I answer my phone from 7
a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week. I realize that I must make
myself available when clients or agents need to talk to me.
At the big banks, you have to wait for your loan officer to
get in. This is my life, and I love what I do.”
Barry draws on his military background by helping vet-erans
to understand and use their VA loan benefits. “I relate
well to other vets, and I am amazed to find that many have
no idea about how a VA loan works or that they can even
qualify. Everybody would want a VA loan if they could get
one, but it is the one loan that you have to earn. You cannot
get one unless you have honorably served your country. It
has almost become a mission for me to share how valuable
that loan is. I network through veterans’ organizations and
try to reach out to those who have never used their benefit
before. They don’t need a down payment, the interest rates
are low, and the government allows for generous debt-to-income
ratios.” Barry also enjoys working with first-time
homebuyers and FHA loan programs. He believes in
keeping his clients well-informed, by maintaining a blog
at www.loanofficerbarry.com where he talks about changes
in the economy that could affect rates and housing markets.
“I think the real estate market today has sky-high potential.
There is more room for values to go up, and I believe that
this is one of the best times ever to be in the business and
for buyers to see a return on investment.”
Barry and his wife love spending time camping and
hiking. He is also a passionate supporter of the arts and
began a non-profit organization to assist artists called
3EG. “I think the arts are incredibly important to our
society as a whole, and I wanted to help support the
people who spend their lives making these contributions.”
“I take my role in helping people to buy a home very
seriously. I care a lot, and that’s why I do what I do.”
