1. The city of Ayacucho or the “City of
Churches” got its name because
there are more than 40 colonial
churches. The Quinua pampa is
located near the city. This was the
scene for the battle of Ayacucho
between spaniards and peruvians
2. The center of the Wari
Culture was located in
Ayacucho. Vilcashuaman is
located 120 km to the south of
Ayacucho and was an Inca
administrative center. You
can also find the Temple of
the Sun and Moon here.
Intiwatana, located near
Vilcashuaman, is an
archaeological complex that
has a palace and a fortified
tower, the Inca baths (with a
17-angle stone) and an
artificial lagoon.
3. The National Reserve of
Pampa Galeras is
designated to protect the
vicuña, the smallest of the
South American
Camelidaes. Their fine fur
is used for high quality
textiles.
