Regions that support Outpost (for now)
Common Questions
• Can I use my own hardware and use a Software version of Outpost ?
• Unfortunately no, this is a Managed Service by AWS. Which means the Infrastructure is
provided and maintained by AWS and authorized partners.
• Can Outposts be used to meet data sovereignty requirements?
• Quoting FAQ below: (https://aws.amazon.com/outposts/faqs/)
“Outposts may address data sovereignty based on customers’ regulation requirements. You can
ensure that customer data stays on premises. However control plane data (e.g. instance IDs,
monitoring metrics, metering records, tags, etc.) will flow back to the AWS Region. This addresses
many of the data residency requirements we hear from our customers. We recommend you confirm
with your compliance teams to ensure this addresses your residency and sovereignty requirements.”
AWS Outpost Security Model
AWS Outposts have an updated shared responsibility model underlying security.
AWS is responsible for :
• Protecting Outposts’ infrastructure similar to how it secures infrastructure in the cloud
today.
Customers are responsible for:
• Securing their applications running on Outposts as they do in the Region today.
• With Outposts, customers are also responsible for the physical security of their Outpost
racks, and for ensuring consistent networking to the Outpost.
AWS Outpost Pricing Model
• AWS Outposts have a 3 Year Lock in …..Yes it is NOT a Pay as you go model 🤷🤷♂
• While offering the following Payment Types
• All Upfront
• Partial Upfront
• No Upfront
They are NOT calling it as Reserved Instances, nor part of the Savings Plan Bandwagon🤷 !!!!
