Motivation, Resilience & Mindwandering - Some Unknown Factsfumikohoeft
Neuroscientist Fumiko Hoeft presented on how neuroscience can help transform education by cracking the code of learning. She discussed 3 key areas: 1) Motivation is enhanced by choice, growth mindset, and reducing stress, while extrinsic rewards can undermine intrinsic motivation. 2) Reducing anxiety requires replacing bad memories rather than just exposure, and encouraging bravery. 3) Mind wandering can incubate creativity when performing undemanding tasks. However, fully understanding education remains challenging due to the complex interplay between genetics, development, environment, and individual differences.
CA Dept of Ed - Neuroscience of Dyslexia fumikohoeft
This document discusses reading and dyslexia from multiple perspectives:
- Dyslexia is a neurobiological condition associated with atypical brain patterns in left temporo-parietal and occipito-temporal regions, even in younger children and across writing systems.
- Early identification of dyslexia is possible and crucial, as early intervention can change developmental trajectories. There is sound evidence that early intervention is also cost-effective.
- The definition of dyslexia should not rely on IQ discrepancies, as seemingly typical readers with high IQ also show dyslexia-like brain patterns. Brain patterns are similar between poor readers regardless of IQ.
Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Resilience in Dyslexiafumikohoeft
The document discusses cognitive and socio-emotional resilience in dyslexia. It begins by providing background on the costs of dyslexia and importance of an integrative approach. It then introduces a resilience framework for understanding dyslexia, focusing on both cognitive and socio-emotional resilience factors. Regarding cognitive resilience, it discusses research finding increased activity in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in resilient readers compared to poor readers, suggesting this region may support cognitive flexibility and learning. For socio-emotional resilience, it points to protective internal and external factors like growth mindset, family support, and peer relationships.

The research found that parental support and encouragement, access to education, and positive attitudes can help people with cerebral palsy develop capable identities and greater opportunities. More work is still needed to promote full participation and equality by challenging underestimations of abilities and ensuring accessibility.

Guidance involves helping individuals improve their adjustment in a general sense by providing information and support, as it occurs before any specific problems. Counseling occurs after a problem has been identified, where the counselor helps address the problem by guiding the individual's thoughts until they find their own answer or solution. While both aim to help people, guidance allows them to achieve goals with some assistance, whereas counseling provides more direct intervention and assistance with problem-solving since the individual would struggle or fail without that support.

INTRODUCTION
One day, my students sat me down and ordered me to write this book. They wanted
people to be able to use our work to make their lives better. It was something I’d wanted to do
for a long time, but it became my number one priority.
My work is part of a tradition in psychology that shows the power of people’s beliefs.
These may be beliefs we’re aware of or unaware of, but they strongly affect what we want and
whether we succeed in getting it. This tradition also shows how changing people’s beliefs—even
the simplest beliefs—can have profound effects.
In this book, you’ll learn how a simple belief about yourself—a belief we discovered in
our research—guides a large part of your life. In fact, it permeates every part of your life. Much
of what you think of as your personality actually grows out of this “mindset.” Much of what may
be preventing you from fulfilling your potential grows out of it.
No book has ever explained this mindset and shown people how to make use of it in their
lives. You’ll suddenly understand the gre.

It is not an easy task to help the section suffering from ‘mental
illness’not because it is difficult to treat them. It is so because,
it does not cause any physical pain which help in the
understanding of the patient that he is suffering from some
mental illness. The level of difficulty is dependent on the
insight of the individuals. In most of the mental cases ‘insight’
is absent.
Thus, making the individual realise and then helping them
becomes a challenging situation. Despite being aware of the
difficulties they are prepared and carrying it out extremely
well.
‘It’s a tough row to hoe but hoe it you will’- is the slogan of the
Director(Dr.Nabhit Kapur) andhis team.
Have you ever thought of a population that in not counted in
worthy population because they are not as capable and
potential as the normal population. But do you know that they
have not lost their ‘natural endowment or ability of a superior
quality’ unlike the so called normal people. So bringing out
the hidden talent of these lost population can result in a great
change.
Is it that individual with mental illness = highly intelligent
individuals?
Some examples like Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein-
are legends as genius. But mind you they both suffered from
serious psychological problems. Asperger’s syndrome are
common in both of them- which is a lifelong disability that
affects how a person makes sense of the world, processes
informationandrelatestootherpeople.
Can you ‘ imaging living’ a life possessing these difficulties.
Is it a ‘no’. Yes, it is really very difficult to lead a life with
mental illness but not impossible. Thus, a little help can
produce many genius like Stephen Hawking and Albert
Einstein.
Thisis onethoughtthatis reallyoutofthebox.

Dyslexia:- As with other learning disabilities, dyslexia is a
lifelong challenge. This language-based processing disorder
can hinder reading, writing, spelling and sometimes even
speaking. Dyslexia is not a sign of poor intelligence or
laziness or the result of impaired hearing or vision. Children
and adults with dyslexia have a neurological disorder that
causes their brains to process and interpret information
differently.
Dyscalculia:- Dyscalculia refers to a wide range of lifelong
learning disabilities involving math. There is no single type of
math disability. Dyscalculia can vary from person to person,
and it affects people differently at different stages of life.
Work-around strategies and accommodations help lessen the
obstacles that dyscalculia presents. And just like in the area of
reading,mathLD is notaprescriptionforfailure.
Dysgraphia:- Dysgraphia is a learning disability that affects
writing, which requires a complex set of motor and
information processing skills. It can lead to problems with
spelling, poor handwriting and putting thoughts on paper.
People with dysgraphia might have trouble organizing letters,
numbersandwords on alineorpage
Dyspraxia:- Dyspraxia is a disorder that affects motor skill
development. People with dyspraxia have trouble planning
and completing fine motor tasks. This can vary from simple
motor tasks such as waving goodbye to more complex tasks
like brushing teeth. It is not a learning disability (LD) but often
