Prostatitis is often caused by bacterial infections but usually cannot be passed to partners during sex. In rare cases, it can be caused by an STI so one should avoid sex and see a doctor if they have STI symptoms. For acute prostatitis, one must take antibiotics until symptoms disappear and wait a month before resuming sexual activity slowly. Frequent or excessive sex can lead to prostate congestion and hinder recovery from both acute and chronic prostatitis. It is important to practice good hygiene before and after sex and do warm water baths to help circulation and recovery. Natural anti-inflammatory medicines can also help treatment.
