The signs of autumn are evident in the morning air, the lengthening shadows, and the ripening fruits hanging heavy on the trees. The trees' leaves are thinning and their sunlight is scattered, while plant pots and baskets look tired and brown. Birds sing excitedly of the coming changes and some prepare to migrate as the nights grow longer. Soon the leaves will fall from the trees as the harvest is gathered into barns and stores. Hedgehogs eat to prepare for winter hibernation and all creatures grow thick coats to withstand the cold. These clear indications show that summer is ending and autumn is underway.
