Australia's Great Barrier Reef is home to over 1,500 species of fish and hundreds of types of coral. However, rising ocean temperatures due to climate change have caused significant bleaching events that have damaged over half of the reef's corals. Protecting the Great Barrier Reef from further damage requires urgent action to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and limit warming to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
