A young man wanted an expensive sports car as a graduation gift from his wealthy father. On graduation day, his father instead gave him a leather-bound Bible, which angered the son. Many years later, after the father had passed away, the son found a car key taped inside the Bible from the day of his graduation with the words "paid in full" written on the tag, realizing his father had already bought him the car he wanted. The story suggests people sometimes miss God's blessings when they are not presented in the packaging expected.

Believing is not easy. Jesus reminds us in this passage that He is from God, His teaching is from God, and that He is going to God. In this passage we find three types of responses to Him. One is from the authorities who oppose Him and want to kill Him. Some of the people see Him as a false teacher and others see him as good. Important lessons about the basis for our belief are found in this text.
2. A young man was getting ready to graduate college.
3. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
5. The young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car
6. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him.
14. …but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him.
15. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son.
16. He needed to come home immediately and take care things.
17. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.
18. He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago.
19. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages.
20. As he read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Bible.
21. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words... PAID IN FULL. PAID IN FULL April 15, 1991
22. How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?
