Board Meeting Minutes
Aug 17, 2010 @ EOC 6:00P.M.
Members present: Sara Hepner, Adam Reimer, Renee Merkes, Kristine Moerlein, Alan Boraas,
Pat King, Carly Reimer, Kent Peterson.
Members absent: Leslie Boyd
Meeting called to order by Pat @ 6:00
1) Approval of Agenda – Agenda approved
2) Approval of Minutes – Minutes approved, need to web post June and July
3) Guest –No Guests
4) Chair’s Report – Pat
Discussion of signs for wildlife on the trails – possibly add a blurb to web page and to
Dani’s sign at Wolverine trail head.
5) Treasurer’s Report – Kristine
Kristine reported an ending balance of $24,420.33 from the reconciliation summary.
She noted that this includes the City of Soldotna Grant, the Timing fee for the Unity
Run, and profits for the Duathlon.
6) Committee Reports –
a. Events – Kristine
The Tri The Kenai event is listed as a rider for insurance
CES training – Wayne and Gordon to be contacted for Search and
Rescues. Talked about installing a lock box for the trail key.
Alan discussed the injury that occurred just before the Everything but the
red run. We need a system for locating injured people, possibly better
signage. We also need a Summer and Winter training for Search and
Rescues. Alan also talked about the need to stabilize the sandy areas on
the trails, possibly mixing with clay? Contact person for Kincaid Trails is
Diane Moxis – need to contact her to discuss their plan that is in place
with Anchorage Fire dept.
Alan, Bill and Kent will mark where we need signs and the naming of
intersections
Kristine and Carly will work on Safety
b. School Liaison – Kent
Aug 28th
is the Skyview Invite XC race – will post event on website
Kenai Region Running at Tsalteshi on Sept 25th
Multiple schools practicing XC running on trails
c. Timing – Renee
Spoke with John Estell about timing chips and got fee schedule for races.
Basically a minimum fee + $3-4 a runner
Will order wand and new photo beams, timing clock, generator – board
discussed that in April approved $3,800 to spend
d. Trail Development – Alan
Peninsula sled dog racing org – PSDR, discussed that we need to keep in
contact with them to be able to keep the trails going – Invite them to come
to next meeting and talk trails with them.
Talked about grooming their trails (and use of equipment) for
memberships. Snowshoers, Skijorers, and walkers use these trails.
Discussed that a one way system needs to be better established. PSDR
meeting on Friday, Adam and Alan talked of going.
Talked about moving equipment around and how grooming would be
coordinated.
Trail development committee to meet with PSDR

f. Racing – Pat
Thursday night running group
g. Trails, Equipment and Facilities – Bill
New mower works great, needs rocks kicked off trails
Ruts on the Beaver need to be worked on with cat or shovels
Will get with Dani and Inger to make up sign and take to Guff
Sprint course project – Gus may not be able to work – may just rent
equipment and do it ourselves and have someone that has equipment
experience.
Have plans for other trail work if we have the equipment – still have grant
money available for construction work. Will post trail construction on
Facebook.
Target covers moved to old range area (old raven corner) May need excavator
work in range area.
Bill has been talking w/an engineer about building a single track trail. We
need to have Joe present to the trail development committee.
Justin Moore biking group update
Bill would like to hire a helper to help clear brush w/grant funds.
MOTION: Adam made a motion to authorize up to $500 to hire a helper, Kent 2nd
, unanimous
decision.
MOTION: Adam made a motion for Bill to rent an excavator for 1 month when he sees fit and
an operator is available for trail work, Kristine 2nd
, comments, unanimous decision.
Biathlon plan – they will do work, but we will need to do site work for them.
We would like to see a plan from Tim. Adam will discuss w/ Tim. Possibly
wants to start with lazer guns. Board discussed the Biathlon group having to
have a lead handling plan if real guns were used. Lazer guns are $1,000 a
piece for gun and point.
Invite Tim to next meeting to discuss:
o Parking – Cell tower company
o Lazers – Who would buy? Grant?
o Schedule – Race and practice
o Excavation plan – trail and range
o Lead Plan
o Recruitment – group size and advertisement
o Coaching plan
o Equipment storage
o Invite to the coaches clinic
o Who in organization
