2. Aesthetics ?
Aesthetics comes from the word “esthetics”
• ….going by the dictionary meaning
Aesthetics is the study of beauty & its appreciation or
philosophy of art.
• In other words it is also…
the new way of seeing and perceiving the world
3. • Thus appreciation of aesthetics is a very individual perception
• Two people can look at the same object and can have different opinions about it.
So……
Aesthetic examines what makes something beautiful, sublime,
disgusting, funny, silly, entertaining, pretentious, harmoniums,
boring or tragic. Judgment of aesthetics clearly rely on our ability
to discriminate at a sensory level.
• However sensitivity to aesthetic qualities can be well groomed by training the senses& the mind
• Aesthetics qualities can only be appreciated if an individual enjoys the experience of it
• Therefore ‘the feel good factor’ becomes extremely important while attempting to appreciate the
aesthetic qualities .
• Thus pleasurable experience one goes through in appreciating design qualities is aesthetic
experience.
4. The unknown author of “Treatise on the sublime” said that,
Each branch of knowledge must meet two requirements:
In the treating of any art, two things are requite,
1.Explain and define what we treat upon,
2. By what & which method that art may be acquired.
This idea is actually refers every subject should be studied in connection with the purpose of science and the
method should be linked to its study.
Aesthetics is one of them though it is not easy to concise definition of aesthetics. Only a detail account of
this brunch of knowledge can give an accurate idea of its boundaries. So Many philosophers defined it in
different ways.
