Sociology reveals that we live in a stratified society. An individual person’s access to social resources and opportunities varies markedly depending on numerous
factors

associated with their social location at the always intersecting systems of institutionalized inequalities. Class, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, and sexual orientation
are important predictors of patterned outcomes at the social group level, across institutions. Examining these arenas at a macro level allows sociologists to achieve a more sophisticated grasp of their workings and the larger social structural dynamics at play. This higher level thinking is also necessary to the creation of well-informed strategies designed to create new forms of justice. Half measures are arguably problematic. As Malcom X once said, "If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress. If you pull it all the way out that's not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made" (1964, but as relevant as ever today).
People Make History

Purpose: This assignment requires you to propose an activism project (a) designed to address a social
justice issue and (b) that relates to a significant issue or topic addressed during the semester. You will
select a social justice issue and develop a proposal that addresses your goals for social transformation
related to the specific issue you’ve selected. Unless your instructor indicates otherwise, you have two
options: (1) you may propose a personal act of activism involving only yourself; (2) or you may
propose a collective act that involves more people than just yourself. (See the next paragraph for
examples of each type.) Regardless of your choice, the action you propose should be narrow and

regarding your social justice issue, or volunteering at a local organization that addresses your social

The proposals must address a specific issue explored during the semester in our course. For example, a

proposal for an organization might involve starting a nonprofit birthing center in a local city for low-
income mothers. The opportunities are endless, so be creative!
Assignment: After selecting a social justice issue to serve as the focus for your activism, you should

Purpose: This assignment requires you to propose an activism project (a) designed to address a social
justice issue and (b) that relates to a significant issue or topic addressed during the semester. You will
select a social justice issue and develop a proposal that addresses your goals for social transformation

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

In later project components, you will explore solutions, decision-making processes, and communication approaches. What You Need to Know The following reading offers insight into understanding organizational behavior within a global context and how the behavior affects different international components of an organization and its members: Organizational Behavior: Chapter 3, "Organizational Behavior in a Global Context," pages 69–99. Assignment Instructions PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION AND BACKGROUND Instructions In this first component of your course project, from the list below, select a problem related to diversity, ethics, and cultural competency that public service organizations might face. Then, describe the problem and provide information from
- 2. organizational, team, and individual perspectives. Identify the concepts of collaborative and communication techniques that affect the development of relationships, partnerships, and alliances within an organization. Select one of the following problems that face public service organizations: Prejudice and discrimination. Differences in social identity. Stereotyping demographics. Accommodation of religious and cultural differences. Gender equality. Language and communication. Generation gaps and age discrimination. Once you've chosen a topic, develop an analysis of the problem based on current and relevant scholarly sources. In your analysis, investigate the circumstances surrounding the problem and its implications for public service organizations. Apply critical-thinking skills to provide a comprehensive discussion and analysis of the selected problem. Consider assumptions about the problem, evidence of its existence, and its effect on relationships, partnerships, and alliances within an organization. Clearly delineate the problem as it relates to the different groups that it affects. Discuss the problem within the context of scholarly literature and research as it relates to public service organizations.

In your assignment, address the following critical elements that align with the grading criteria: Identify and discuss the impacts of diversity, ethics, and cultural competency on the decision-making process related to the selected problem. Evaluate the concepts of collaborative and communication techniques that have affected the development of relationships, partnerships, and alliances. Examine scholarly support from the literature regarding the impacts of diversity, ethics, and cultural competency on the decision-making process related to the selected problem. Evaluate the aspects of effective communication styles as applied to individual and group collaboration. Analyze current (published within the past 3–5 years), relevant, peer-reviewed academic research articles that examine the identified elements. Last week, you were asked to submit your paper to either Smarthinking, a service offered by the Capella Writing Center, or both. In your project paper, include the following: In an appendix section after the reference page, an explanation of how you implemented feedback on your writing. Write your assignment in the third person academic, using a formal, scholarly, and objective tone. Avoid the use of first- and second-person pronouns, contractions, and casual or conversational tone.
