Professional standards guide the short- and long-term functions
of a school. Leaders within the school use professional
standards to implement the school’s mission and vision with the
ultimate goal of student achievement.
Allocate at least 3 hours in the field to support this field
experience.
Review the “COE Sample Educational Administration Field
Experience/Internship Activities” to identify activities to
observe and participate in with your principal mentor.
Select a leader activity to observe that focuses on your principal
mentor’s or another school leader’s performance. Record your
observations and identify key decision points.
With your remaining hours, shadow your principal mentor,
observing and/or participating in leadership activities.
Following your observations and participation, complete a 250-
500 word reflection on your experiences. Focus the reflection
on one of the activities you observed in which the principal
mentor demonstrated, or could have demonstrated, leading with
purpose, integrity, and reliability. Incorporate one or more
PSEL standards and one or more ethical standards from the
National Association of Secondary School Principals into your
reflection and describe how you will apply what you have
learned to your future professional practice.
While APA format is not required for the body of this
assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and PSEL
standards should be referenced using APA documentation
