The Asheboro Zoo has over 1100 animals of 200 species, including lions and ancient turtles. It uses solar power for lights, pumps, and machines. The zoo features a prairie geyser that erupts every five minutes to heights of 20-40 feet from hot rocks heating underground water. Alligator feedings occur May through August on Sundays and Wednesdays at 10 am while vampire bat feedings are on weekends at 3:30 pm.
