Allan McCollum's "Shapes from Maine: Shapes Copper Cookie Cutters" features copper cookie cutters that are all unique but look the same from far away. Courtney Lemaster recreated the concept using aluminum cookie cutters of varying shapes and sizes. Umberto Boccioni's "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space" also features individually distinct but related forms. Kimsooja's "Bottari" uses bed covers in different colors and patterns to create a unified whole, which Lemaster interpreted using playing cards. Gabriel Orozco's "My Hands Are My Heart" conveys caring for the world, an idea Lemaster embodied in a photograph of herself holding a globe.

Allan McCollum enjoys millions of possibilities with unique twists. Not one cookie cutter
is the same but they look the same from far away. He used all copper in this piece.
"It looks like I do them one at a time. But that’s an exaggeration because I have
documents that contain 144 shape parts—144 tops in a specific order according to a
specific sequence of a specific protocol—and then, in another document, I have 144
bottoms. These arrays are numbered." - Allan McCollum
3. “Christmas Time” Courtney Lemaster,

I decided to do cookie cutters but I made them all different in size and shape. It gave the
same variety as McCollum with a twist. They are all related to each other in some way but
are also so different. The cookie cutters are also aluminum not copper like McCollum used.
4. Umberto Boccioni, Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, 1913
Bronze 43 7/8 x 34 7/8 x 15 ¼
The closest piece that resembles McCollum was Umbreto Boccioni’s
piece, Unique Forms of Continuity in Space. It is bronze instead of
copper but almost has the same color. Each side looks different. It also
looks as if it is multiple pieces combined into one.
5. Kimsooja

Used bed covers and used clothes, dimensions variable
Kimsooja used bed covers to create her piece. She used many different colors and patterns
to make it into one. She used many variations and different sizes. Many of the colors she
used were bright and vibrant colors. I think she put a piece in the middle to show a point of
interest or focal point.

I recreated Kimsooja’s piece but instead of bed covers I used playing
cards. I used three different patterns and colors to show the variety she
did but my colors were not as bright and vibrant as hers. I put a little
clay piece in the middle to show off the focal point.
7. Triumphal Entry Persian, Safavid culture

This is a piece I think relates to Kimsooja. It is many patterns that connect
together. There is a piece in the middle more like a focal point. They used
many different colors and variety. Instead of fabric this piece is made from
watercolor, ink, and gold on paper.
8. Gabriel Orozco

Orozco’s piece is very touching. He shows a man that his hands are his heart. He cares
about our world and no matter what the color of your skin is you’re still important in
our world.

9. “World is Life” Courtney

The ball is supposed to be a world not a basketball. I have always cared about our
world and have always wanted to see a change. I wanted to show that my life
revolves around the world. I volunteer to help clean up beaches and I could relate
to what Orozco was trying to convey and show through his photograph.
