Aristegui Noticias is a team of intrepid reporters whose investigations have exposed
corruption and malfeasance by the powerful in Mexico. Led by Carmen Aristegui, one
of Mexico’s most renowned journalists, the team reports on possible crimes and
conflicts of interest among government figures and elites in an environment known as
one of the deadliest in the world for journalists.
The team uncovered a major conflict of interest involving the Mexican first lady’s
purchase of a $7 million home on credit from a government contractor. The “Casa
Blanca” investigation exposed a powerful network of public officials and contractors
doing business through favoritism. Without admitting wrongdoing, the government
canceled a lucrative high-speed rail construction contract with the company.

Aristegui Noticias has targeted pedophilia in the priesthood and a prostitution network
operating in an office of the ruling party, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
The group participated in the groundbreaking Panama Papers investigation, reporting
on many Mexican figures with massive holdings in overseas tax havens, including the
builder of the “Casa Blanca” (Mexico’s White House). Tax authorities in Mexico have
opened an investigation into the 30 Mexicans mentioned.

2. After the Casa Blanca story was published, Aristegui and two of her team members
were fired from MVS Radio, where she hosted a popular daily news talk show. The
station said they were fired for using its logo without permission, but many believe the
dismissals were aimed at silencing the team’s hard-hitting reports. Before her
dismissal in March 2015 at MVS radio, Aristegui introduced investigative reporting
and led a team of 17 reporters. She gained a reputation for being a fearless voice for
transparency and against corruption.
The other team members are Daniel Lizárraga, Rafael Cabrera, Sebastián Barragán
and Irving Huerta.
