The speaker shares about encountering a Bible verse that made them think and ponder God's word. They stand before the congregation as a student to ask questions, not because they think they know everything, but because they want to know. The speaker discusses Revelation 12:9 about the church that Satan deceives the whole world with, and Revelation 12:17 about the church that keeps the commandments of God and has the testimony of Jesus Christ. They question if the congregation is truly keeping God's commandments based on passages in Exodus, and keeping the faith as the church described in Revelation 14:12.
Today’s gospel, in which John describes the appearance of the risen Christ to his disciples reveals three basic skills or spiritual practices to follow in order to strengthen our soul, our well-being and our connection with God and with each other.
This is a message I delivered when I was asked to fill the pulpit at our Church one week the Pastor was out. It explains why I am attending a Church of the Brethren church rather than anywhere else.

For six weeks we have listened to post resurrection Gospel stories, which when woven together give us great insight into Christ’s explanation of what it is like to be in relationship with him - to be fed by him, to be in communion with him.
Two thousand years later, our problem is that I think we make it more complicated, more ego-centered, and more difficult than it really is.
So what do you have to do? Check it out….
Over the past three weeks of Advent we have called to stay awake, to be alert, all the while listening and waiting and making straight our paths. So, what has your Advent been like during these times of the pandemic? Outside of marking the time by lighting the Advent candles each week, what, perhaps have you been seeing, feeling or doing differently this year?
Faced with all the challenges that have been brought upon us this past year, today’s Gospel gives us three points which may lead us to a better understanding of what we are called to do in our final days of Advent…and beyond.

With the calendar only providing us 3 full weeks of Advent, how have you been spending your time? What, perhaps have you been seeing…or feeling or doing differently? For Advent calls us to be conscious, awake, alert. Advent calls us to be open to how Christ comes to us every day. Advent calls for our participation by opening our eyes to our own brokenness and that of humanity. For Christ is there…just waiting and wanting our active participation. This week’s Gospel provides us three points which may lead us to a better understanding of what we are called to do moving from this briefest 4th week of Advent into Christmas and the New Year. What are they? Check it out….
This is a collection of writings that deal with the paradoxes that we find in the Bible about the Holy Spirit. Other paradoxes are also explored. There are many paradoxes that we seldom consider. They can open up our eyes to see new truths.

In America almost half the Christians in church do not know or act like Jesus Christ. Nine out of ten pastors expressed spiritual immaturity is the most serious problem in the church. Biblical literacy is neither a current reality or goal in the U.S. We focus on building projects, finances and membership drives—everything except Jesus. Jesus said if He be lifted up, He will draw all men to Himself. Instead, Jesus sometimes seems to be the only thing we donʼt lift up.
Itʼs time to open the door and give him His Church back. Itʼs time to emerge from our expensive facades—the outward appearances we maintain to conceal a less pleasant reality—and let Him back in. Itʼs time to ask ourselves a simple question: If what we’ve been doing in church has produced such depressing results, why do we continue doing it this way…our way?
We are in desperate need of a new reformation in the 21st century. Why?
Because we have a culture of Christians that do not know Christ or act like him. According to Barna, in a typical week 41% of the adults attending Christian Churches are not born again. Most of those people have been attending Christian Churches for years without really understanding the foundations of the Christian faith and its personal implications (George Barna, March 5, 2001).
The American Church according to nine out of ten pastors is spiritual immature and biblically illiterate.
We are failing.

Pastor Lionel Rattenbury shares on the vision of Hope Church 2508. The church that we see has hundreds of families growing to become mature followers of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel this weekend has the 12 disciples being sent out to spread the Good News. So, imagine how these disciples were feeling – for they just witnessed Christ being rejected by those who knew him best. So, other than witnessing the words and actions of Christ, they had no real ministerial religious training – and it was certainly long before any dogma and doctrines were ever thought of. For the most part they were simple fishermen – but all called by Christ to be his chosen ones to spread the Good News – and do this by having encounters with others. For true encounters allow us to go directly to the heart of humanity. But the question remains, “How can we better reach this “heart” today?” Check it out…
Heart4Worship is a different kind of church. We steer clear of labels, and are accepting of all Christians who believe in the Bible and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you are committed to your faith, then Heart4Worship welcomes you with open arms and open hearts.
Homily: Third Sunday of Lent A 2023 .docxJames Knipper
This Sunday we heard the gospel that provides the longest dialogue recorded between Jesus and a woman. By breaking with social ‘norms’ Jesus reaches out with acceptance, self-worth and compassion to one who was socially outcast. For this is a Gospel story that teaches us, reminds us, encourages us that in the Kingdom of God there are no outcasts, there are no strangers, there are no us versus them, rather it is a kingdom of only repentant and welcomed sinners – people like you and me. But the core message of this gospel is hidden – and one that opens our eyes to what we already have. What is that? Check it out….

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Are we that church?
1. Good morning and thank you for allowing me this opportunity to stand here and share
something I encountered in the past months. This verse that I encountered made me think and I
pondered upon the Word.
First off, My name is Yshua Lyngdoh, occupation Student. I’d like to emphasize on my
occupation. It’s not just worldly but also Spiritually.
I stand here this morning, nervous and anxious. The question that lies ahead taunts me. Once
again, I’m just a student. I have questions.
I stand here not that I think I know, au contraire, I stand here because I need to know.
Week in, week out teachers and senior members, who’ve grown in Christ. Have asked us, have
encouraged us to take a stand and share. Ma’am Pauline, whose spirit of being a teacher, has
begged us, not for her sake, but our own so that we become closer to God and his Son. There
have been talks that the church-building is not the church, We are the church. They’re not
wrong. Now let’s open to Revelations Chapter 12. We should not take anything out of context
here, but we’ll focus on verse 9: “…who deceives the whole world;…”
Now on to Rev chapter 1 verse 20, possibly talking about these 7 churches would take far too
long and time here is limited as my question needs answers.
So, there is only one church that Satan is “really mad at”. Just ONE! And that ONE church has
two characteristics. Again (REV) Chapter 12, the last verse, 17. Now no doubt, our Church-US,
WE. We really do keep the faith and the testimony of Jesus Christ. We truly are Christians.
Now our Jewish brothers, They really know the Scripture. They go by it. Not missing a single
bit. Sad to say they don’t acknowledge the Sacrifice made by the Lamb.
So, what I’m trying to say is, do we keep the commandments? Exodus 20, 1-17. Now a more
focused look at Exodus 35:1-4
Sunday to Sunday we hear that we are the adopted Children. Are we?
Christmas and Easter, just surface perversions that we deal with. As we go deeper, the more truth
is revealed.
Now onto Matthew 22: 37-40
Jesus said, “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. “
You can’t say that Jesus came and gave us new rules and directions, NOPE!
He emphasized it actually. “On these two commandments hang the Law and the Prophets”
2. We just read the law in Exodus 20.
Once again before I let the question be questioned, Revelations Chapter 12, the last verse, 17.
Continuing to 14 verse 12. “…Here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith
of Jesus.”
Are we that Church?
