The Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe wrote to the King of Saudi Arabia to express concern over the detention of human rights lawyer Waleed Abu Al-Khair. The letter notes that Al-Khair was arbitrarily detained in April 2014 while attending his trial, and reports that he is being held in solitary confinement and deprived of sleep in an attempt to break him. The CCBE believes Al-Khair's detention is due to his peaceful human rights work and calls on the King to immediately and unconditionally release Al-Khair and ensure all lawyers in Saudi Arabia can work without fear of reprisal.
