This document discusses 5 major perspectives in psychology: structuralism focuses on the structure of the mind through introspection; functionalism examines what the mind does; Gestalt psychology looks at the organization of perceptual experience and that experiences are holistic; behaviourism holds that behaviour satisfies people's needs; and the cognitive perspective maintains that scientific psychology must focus on what is observable and verified, and involves thinking and other mental processes by which our knowledge develops.
