Pontormo's 1513 painting Apollo and Daphne depicts the Greek mythological scene of Apollo chasing Daphne. It is an oil on canvas painting from the early 16th century created by the Italian Renaissance artist Jacopo da Carrucci, also known as Pontormo. The work illustrates the moment when Daphne, unable to escape Apollo, is transformed into a laurel tree as she calls for help from her father, the river god Peneus.
