Exciting Progress!
                     EWB 2013

The team is feeling GOOD: Friday, July 13th was HALFWAY point in conference planning,
and we celebrated with a box of HALF donuts.

    UPDATES:

• The preliminary budget is finished and in the process of getting approved

• The overall block schedule has been made and is in it’s final stages!

• The Content team is underway planning content and transforming the vision into reality

• Vision Stage 2 is almost complete - with some more input from you guys! (cue next slide)
BUT... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR AFRICAN
              PROGRAMS (AND YOU)!?
With Phase Two of the vision we are trying to look at strategic value add of
conference for each venture/initiative.

Two simultaneous steps:

STEP ONE:
How can EWB 13 enable you to meet your goals for 2013? What kind do space
and content do you need from EWB13 to be successful?

Ideas on where to start: Where is this venture going to be in 2013? What does
conference mean to our venture?

and we have a framework to help your
thinking.....
(surprise surprise!)
Indirect
 Impact

     Direct
    Impact

                     Influence Space Constructive Space

Direct Impact vs. Indirect Impact Influence vs. Constructive Space:

• Direct: How can we create a conference that will • Influence space: Conference material, content or
help trigger a systemic change that wouldn't space aimed at creating or utilizing influence
  happen outside of conference?
                                                   • Constructive space: Space aimed at building skill,
• Indirect: How can conference enable future leadership and plan development
impact that may happen without conference?
BUT... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR AFRICAN
               PROGRAMS (AND YOU)!? CONTINUED
    STEP TWO:
What is the bigger picture context of EWB at conference (EWB beyond the individual
    ventures)

• Mapping out bigger picture changes in EWB and bigger picture strategic goals. (How do
we portray Africa/our African Programs at conference? What does it mean to
communicate our AP venture model at conference? )
• This involves working with the Exec team and the broader network of stakeholders.
How can we set up EWB to have a year of generating ventures?

    WHAT’S NEXT?
Alex (Fox) will contact each of you to set up a time to chat (ideally over the phone, but
email works as well) about these things within the next few weeks.
Ideally the EWB13 team wants to have a second vision draft done by July 24th. Recognizing
this timeframe is tough with the APLT and late notice, we’ll be working on a timeline a bit
later than that. We encourage you to think and talk about some of these things during the
APLT and with your teams in preparation. Look out for an email when you’re done the APLT!

GOAL: We want to be a thought partner for each of you - and gather your thinking as
it happens, rather than wait for it to converge in November

Finally - any feedback, concerns, ideas, thoughts, musings - contact Alex at alexfox@ewb.ca
