This document discusses genetically modified (GM) crops and some of the key issues surrounding their use. It begins by defining GM crops as organisms that have been genetically altered using biotechnology. It then examines several social, political, environmental, economic, and ethical issues related to GM crops. Socially, some studies have found health issues in people exposed to certain GM crops. Politically, the US does not require GM food labeling while Europe does. Environmentally, there are concerns GM crops could become weeds or invade natural habitats. Economically, a case study found Bt cotton in India increased yields while maintaining similar costs to traditional cotton. Ethically, there are debates around consumer and environmental risks versus benefits.
Students are already engaged with video games daily and enjoy competing with friends. This document suggests using game mechanics and digital badges in the classroom to motivate students to master skills outlined in the Common Core State Standards. Badges would track students' progress through different levels as they demonstrate application of skills in various situations, mimicking experience systems in online games. While online games could be incorporated, the document also recommends using manipulatives and changing activities frequently to keep students engaged and prevent lessons from becoming too dependent on technology.

This document discusses the role of a Turkish Saturday school in New York City in maintaining the Turkish language and culture among children of Turkish immigrants. The school serves children ages 4-14 from October to June, where they recite a pledge of allegiance in Turkish and follow a content-based curriculum while their parents socialize. A study of the school concluded that it helps children connect to their heritage and family abroad, builds their confidence, and teaches them that cultural diversity is positive.
