Hiring Salary Range: $35,072 to $38,000
Under limited supervision, performs skilled work for the County in the enforcement of local ordinances and state statutes related to
control of animals and operation of an animal shelter. Work involves capturing, confining, and euthanizing stray, diseased, and
dangerous animals. Employee also assists Chief Animal Control Officer with administrative and training duties of department and
participates in monthly on-call rotation. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in ensuring proper care of
animals; exercise tact, courtesy and firmness in frequent contact with animal owners and general public. Employee is subject to the
usual hazards of animal control work. Position reports to Chief Animal Control Officer.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent, successful completion of a state certified Animal Control Officer Training School, 4 to 6 years
training and/or progressively responsible animal control work experience, 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience and excellent
communication and customer service skills; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required
knowledge, skills and abilities. Proficient data entry and computer skills are required.
Special Requirements:
Must meet and maintain firearms certification. Must possess and maintain an acceptable driving record and a valid driver's license
issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Employee is required to participate in on-call rotation. A pre-employment, post-offer
physical examination is required, and employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-
related physical requirements.
