- 2bt: 8,90 *2 = 17,8 euros The wine is so named because the original d’Arenberg Riesling vineyard was next to a dam, or reservoir, which in the driest summers would completely dry up. d’Arry soon learned that a dry summer meant a dry dam and a very concentrated Riesling with lots of flavours and intensity. Chester’s tasting notes: As a young wine, the Dry Dam shows lime, citrus blossom and almost perfumed rose petal smells; As an older wine, develops with tremendous structure and classic honey-toast bottle aged fruit flavours and lemon-lime acidity.
- 1 bt: 31 euros The vintage was a good one, especially for the early ripening varieties such as chardonnay. There was no destemming and the grapes were whole bunch pressed. The juice was settled after pressing for 48 hours, pumped into stainless steel tanks with 2% solids, then seeded for fermentation. After fermentation, it was transferred into 100% new French oak barrels with daily battonage (stirring) until dryness. Winepros: Best Vintages: '90, '91, '95, '98, '99, '00, '04 ; This is always a richly seductive wine, with the typical Margaret River fruit concentration, offset by that special softness which the Moss Wood vineyard site imparts. Winemaker’s tasting notes: The Moss Wood 2004 Chardonnay has a complex nose showing lime and grapefruit citrus aromas, hints of roast cashew, some caramel from the malolactic fermentation and light spicy oak. It’s flavoursome and lively, deep and long, with white peach and nectarine characters adding flesh to the mid-palate. It’s tighter, leaner and more restrained at this stage but clearly focused with underlying power, persistence and a clear, bright finish that refreshes.
- “ One of my favourite Barossa wineries… Charles Melton.” ~Robert M. Parker Jnr.~ 1 bt: 23,40 euros Winemaker’s tasting notes: Very definitely a year where the Grenache has shone. Beautiful musky/talcum-like perfume, with just a touch of spicy Shiraz influence. More complex, sweet cedar flavours on the palate, with excellent weight and a long sweet aftertaste to finish. This wine, as is the case with the Shiraz, reflects the milder, wetter winter before harvest. This has provided a degree more perfume and elegance compared to the drought harvest of ??03 which gave spicier, dark soy-type characters.
- 1 bt: 18,90 euros Notes for 1999 vintage (not 1998) Dark red to black; Spicy aromas of sweet plum, blackberry and liquorice; Rich fruit character and velvety tannins followed by a long, elegant finish with plums.; Fifteen months in new French barriques and one-year-old American hogsheads.; This wine already has great depth and concentration, but careful cellaring will be further rewarded.
- 2 bt:14,95 *2 =29,90 euros; Naming : Chester's daughters Ruby and Alicia named their tame Kookaburra the “Magpie” (not at all similar in looks) that lives in the native scrub surrounding the Osborn family home. (Kookaburra gives out a “laughing sound”). Winemaking : Ripe bunches of Shiraz and Viognier were gently crushed by the ‘Demoisy’ open –mouthed, rubber toothed crusher, before fermentation together in the headed down open fermenters. The still fermenting juice was then transferred using the peristaltic action of our must pump to be basket pressed by our ‘Coq’ and “Bromley and Tregoning’ presses, followed by 12 months maturation in American and French oak barriques, before bottling on site. Chester’s notes : A vivid dark purple colour. Viognier adds fragrance & perfume of flowers, nectarines, ginger and herbs, enhancing ripe spectrum of Shiraz (blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry). Same characters also evident on palate with a smooth glycerol impact, following through to the mid palate with fruity tannin.. Fine structure and a gritty long fruit tannin. After time in bottle flavours should intensify The restrained tannin and acidity will produce a seamless velvety rolling length with age
- 1 bt: 17,20 euros “ 89% Cabernet Sauvignon + 11% Merlot this wine will reward with careful cellaring, and will improve with decanting before drinking” Winemaker’s tasting notes : Deep red colour, with a purple tinge, Nose shows lifted liquorice and blackcurrant with some perfumed aromas of violets and toasted vanilla oak, Palate is firm and structured with mineral and blackcurrant fruit and a firm tannin finish
- 3 demi bt: 22,64 *3 = 67,92 euros Winemaker : Clear, vibrant, light golden in colour; Captivating aromas of dried apricots and nectarines, combine with orange rind and honey to entice the palate.; This wine exhibits apricot and quince fruit combined with citrus, vanillin oak and a hint of almond.
