Jess L was born in 1983 and attended theatre school from age 9, later training at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. She signed with 19 Management in 2002 and then Island/Universal, releasing her debut album Frank in 2003 which was nominated for two BRIT Awards and went platinum twice. Her 2006 album Back to Black won five Grammys after being released, cementing her success, but she sadly passed away in 2011 with a posthumous album Lioness: Hidden Treasures being released later that year.
