Shirley Temple’s Career • Film debut at three • At six she was featured in Stand Up and Cheer • Became a celebrity in 1934 • 1934= four movies: Now and Forever, Little Miss Marker, Baby Take a Bow, and Bright Eyes • 1935: The Little Colonel, Curly Top, and The Littlest Rebel • 1936: Poor Little Rich Girl, Dimples, and Stowaway • 1937: Wee Willie Winkie and Heidi

Walt Disney • In the early 1930’s he started the “Silly Symphonies” • Featured characters that hadn’t been introduced yet • ’32: first color cartoon “Flower and Trees” • ’33: “Three little pigs” • ’34: first full length cartoon “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” • Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955 • Walt Disney World opened on October 25, 1971.
  7. 7. Ella Fitzgerald • “Lady Ella” and “First Lady of Song” • Born: April 25th 1919 in Newport News, Virginia • Death: June 15th 1996 • Mastered scat singing • Voice was flexible, wide- ranged, and accurate • Performed every where • She could imitate every instrument in the orchestra
  8. 8. • First recording in 1936 “ Love and Kisses” • Began singing quot;(If You Can't Sing It) You Have to Swing It.” with a new style, she sang so her voice sounded like the horn • In 1938 at the age of 21 Ella sang a version of the nursery rhyme quot;A-Tisket, A-Tasket.quot; • The album sold 1 million copies • Hit number one, and stayed on the pop charts for 17 weeks • Ella Fitzgerald was famous  • In her lifetime, she won 13 Grammy awards • Ella sold over 40 million albums
  9. 9. Bing Crosby • Born: May 3rd, 1903 in Tacoma, Washington • American actor, singer and songwriter • Great popularity in radio, recordings, and motion pictures

Bing Crosby Continued • Appeared in the early sound film King of Jazz in 1931 • Became popular after getting his own program on the CBS radio station in New York City in 1932 • By the late 1930s his records were selling millions of copies • He had part-authorship of “A Ghost of a Chance” and “Where the Blue of the Night” (his radio theme song) • His recording of “White Christmas” became really popular

Nat King Cole • Born: March 17th, 1917 in Montgomery, Alabama • One of the best and most influential pianists of the swing era • Grew up in Chicago, by age 12 he sang and played the organ at church • He formed his first jazz group, the Royal Dukes, five years later • In 1937 he began playing in jazz clubs in Los Angeles. • He formed the King Cole Trio in L.A.
