Kodiak Island in Alaska is home to many animal species including 3,500 brown bears that can be viewed, five types of whales, and 240 species of puffins. The island is also home to 6,334 people, mostly of Alutiiq heritage who formerly lived in sod houses and hunted sea mammals.
