WHA IRC Directors Workshop
                    U.S. Embassy – Quito, Ecuador
                               June 7-11, 2010

This workshop provides a forum for IRC Directors to meet and examine the role of
IRCs in carrying out WHA public diplomacy goals and develop a customized IRC
marketing plan that puts these goals into action.

The first two days will focus on WHA and IRC goals and initiatives, including social
media, collection development, IRC best practices, OpenNet resources and databases,
and a visit to the American Corner at the Centro Cultural Metropolitano in Quito.

For the remaining three days, you will build a practical marketing plan for Mission and
external audiences that addresses public diplomacy goals as it blends appropriate
application of social and interactive media with proven public diplomacy methods and
tools. U.S. library public relations and marketing consultant Peggy Barber will guide
participants through the process of designing a positioning statement and key
message, identifying key audiences, strategies and tools, and measures used for
evaluation.

Secretary Clinton will be visiting Quito on Tuesday afternoon, June 8. We might be
able to attend her speech at the Centro Cultural Metropolitano (the same place as the
American Corner), but we probably won’t know until the last minute. Thanks in
advance for your flexibility as we manage potential changes in this schedule.

All sessions will be held in the Chimborazo Room at the U.S. Embassy in Quito.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OFFICIAL EMBASSY BADGE EVERY DAY.
