Roger Davies approached POA Learning in 2014 with the aim of setting up a learning center for staff and families at HMYOI Portland. He established the "Light House" Learning Centre and serves as the Union Learning Representative. Through his efforts, over 300 learners have participated in qualifications to assist with their duties. Andy Harding of HMP Dartmoor nominated Roger for an Adult Learners Week award, citing his total commitment and enthusiasm for supporting learning opportunities through the center. As a result of Roger's dedication, he received a Certificate of Achievement from NIACE for his support of adult learning in his role.

payingforthe furniture withinthe learningcentre aswell asthe monthlybroadbandcostsforthe IT

establishmenti.e. Level2inMental Health Awareness,TeamLeadershipandFunctional skillsto
name but a few,thatwere itnot for RogerDaviesandPOA Learningthese staff wouldnothave had
the opportunitytoachieve.
To date,since March 2014 POA Learning have hadover300 Learnerstarts fromHMYOI Portland
thankstotallytothe hardand dedicatedworkfromRogerDaviesinhisULR status.

Due to the universal success of ULRRoger DaviesatThe LightHouse LearningCentre atHMYOI
Portland;POA Learninghave nowopened anotherLearningCentre onPortlandatHMIRC the Verne.
The 'Acorn' LearningCentre wasopened inearly2015 withthe same aim of providinglargelyfree
learningopportunitiestoNOMSstaff,and families.
As a resultof the ALW citationmade on behalf of OfficerRogerDavies–Rogerwasawardeda
Certificate of Achievement byNIACE( National Institute forAdultContinuingEducation) forall of his
dedicatedandunstintingsupportof the AdultLearningagendainhisULR role forPOA Learning.
