A new variety of maple called Acer x 'San' was discovered in Denmark. It is a cross between maple and another Acer species, resulting in a tree that is significantly smaller than typical maple, reaching only 5-6 meters tall after 15 years. The tree has beautiful foliage characteristics including scarlet coverleaves in spring and colorful leaves ranging from green to red in autumn. After testing over many years, Acer x 'San' was found to have desirable growth, shape, foliage, and health qualities making it an interesting ornamental tree for gardens.
