The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

apology to the Point University Access staff. I was utterly distressed when I received the
notification from Dr. Leon Reese regarding the claim. I admit I have made a crucial mistake, which
may damage my educational pathway. I understand the importance of the violated policies, for the
sake of maintaining a high standard of education. I assure you that my actions were not
conscientious or maliciously motivated; I found no harm in reaching out to Mrs. Newhouse for
assistance. She simply instructed me on how to set the problem up and from there I solved the
algebraic expression. Just as Mrs. Newhouse would assist when myself or another student

momentary lack of judgment. Since the completion of my first course at Point University with Lynne

2. The Cause And Effects Of Academic Dishonesty
People are always tend to choose the easiest way in every task they are asked to do in their
everyday activities. We also tend to cheat and cheating became so trend nowadays, so students start
cheating in their collage and cheating became more prevalent today. However there are a lot of
reasons that made students tend to cheat in their college. This article will show the causes and the
effects of academic dishonesty and cheating.
According to Howard (2014), As our culture changes, college campuses became more competitive
and internet already gave us new forms of cheating, it seems so weird that the percentage of students
cheating would remain the same. This clearly indicates that whatever is being changing to stop
cheating today hasn't worked.
According to Ralph Heizbutzki blog, showed us why students tend to cheat in different categories.
These categories were like institutional apathy and self–interest.
The first reason that made students cheat was institutional apathy, it encourage students to cheat as
they don't see their academic environment as it deserves their honesty. Just like cheating in
Monopoly deal is easier to justify them avoiding its tax. If students don't believe their university
deserve the highest standards, they will never find any reason to follow all the rules about grading.
However, Self–interest is also one of the...show more content...
In a study led in 1979 8.8% understudies reported that they cheat so as to get decent evaluations. One
of the most concerning issue in reporting scholastic untruthfulness is confounded by the way that
there isn't a typical definition for academic dishonesty. Replicating some of sentences without foot

3. The Issue Of Academic Dishonesty
Technology is rapidly evolving and changing nowadays. As a result of the increasing availability
and propagation of several forms of technology, academic dishonesty cases in every college and
university have greatly multiplied and become a global issue. The issue on cheating behaviors in
students is so pervasive and uncontrollable that it is almost considered as commonplace (Arhin &
Jones, 2009).
One of the hardest challenges for educators is knowing how and when to discipline their students. In
the given scenario, there are several issues to take into account; the first and foremost being the issue
of academic dishonesty. "Academic dishonesty is defined by the Webster dictionary as the intentional
participation in...show more content...
Discussion of Legal Issues
The first step in handling academic dishonesty issues is to determine if academic dishonesty really
took place. Faucher & Caves (2009) describe that academic dishonesty can be classified into three
primary domains including: 1) taking, giving, or receiving information from others; 2) use of
forbidden materials or information; 3) circumventing the process of assessment. In this circumstance,
the student may have committed two of the three domains. If the student used her cellphone to text
another person and asked him/her something about the exam, then she is receiving information from
others, which falls under the first domain. If she used her cellphone to look up for answers on the
internet or retrieve information she might have stored on her cellphone, then she is using forbidden
materials or information, which falls under the second domain. If indeed it is found out that the
student did use her cellphone to cheat on the exam, then disciplinary action must be imposed, but it
must be taken the legal way in order to protect the educator from any legal retaliation. This brings up
two secondary issues related to academic dishonesty which include students' right to privacy and
protecting the whistleblower.
In the situation provided, the student was not directly caught cheating, rather, a second party

Abstract
The main objective for this literature review is to gather and evaluate data from three studies on
cheating and plagiarism. While these studies were based on cheating they each differ slightly but,
overall, these studies aim to investigate the behaviors and methods that students utilize to cheat, as
well as the reasons why the student decides to cheat. Each study was performed in 3 different
institutions, in three different countries. The statistics investigated were provided by participants
who were students at the institution.
Keywords: cheating, plagiarism, college, students,
Studies on Academic Dishonesty: Why Do Students Cheat? Cheating and plagiarism has been a
major problem in schools throughout time. Truth is, a student will cheat if they get the opportunity.
There are several ways in which students can cheat: copying a nearby student, writing answers on
the desk, using Internet on phones, etc. Whatever way a student decides to cheat, it is a difficult
task to pull off without being acknowledged by a teacher. So why cheat? It would be much easier
just studying and knowing the information oneself. Many researchers have already asked and
investigated these questions in experimental studies. Three similar articles on these studies are
reviewed to find similarities and differences in research done on cheating and plagiarism.

5. Academic Plagiarism And Academic Dishonesty
Have you ever shown up to class totally forgetting to look over the notes and study guide for the
chapter test that day? Lack of preparation is a huge contributor to academic dishonesty. Forgetting to
study can cause those who would not usually cheat to stoop low and look at someone else 's work.
Some students rely on cheating to make their way through high school or college. Academic
dishonesty is a way lazy students take advantage of hard working students. Whether the academic
dishonesty is caused because of the lack of preparation, a poor work ethic, or by having a poor
home life; it usually leads to violating academic dishonesty school policies and leading to short term
and long term effects. One day I showed up to my government class, my first block of the day. I
did not believe we had any assignments, so I had not brought home any class materials the day
before. I walked into the classroom and asked the teacher what the day 's plan was. He
immediately raised his eyebrows and said, 'Well, we have our chapter 3 test today.' Immediately
shocked, I panicked. This situation is how many students fall into the cheating trap. This panic has
caused plenty of students to wander their eyes to surrounding test looking for answers. Thankfully
I knew that cheating was not the answer. I respectfully told my teacher what had happened and he
allowed me to briefly review my notes before I took the test. My lack of preparation could have
caused me to very easily cheat off of my

Introduction: "Cheating's OK!" This line is most likely heard by many of us. Cheating is widespread
that even a Catholic Institution of St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD) is not exempted to have
student cheating on exams. Cheaters only need to master the skills of cheating without actually
acquiring knowledge and skills measured by the test.
This led us to survey the most prevalent cheating strategy among Bachelor of Business
Administartion Students of St. Paul University Dumaguete according to year level. We will be using

Another most important cause of academic misconduct is the contextual factor of an environment of
peer disapproval of cheating, that is, peer pressure. Psychologists note that all people tend to follow
the norms of their peer group, which would include norms about academic dishonesty. Thus, students
who believe that their peers disapprove of cheating are less likely to cheat. Indeed, multiple studies
show that the most decisive factor in a student's decision to cheat is his perception of his peers'
relationship with academic dishonesty.
Teachers also have incentives to cheat. Taking the example of a federal government of the United
States that had mandated high–stakes testing as part of the No Child Left Behind Act, signed into
law in 2002. Schools and teachers are held accountable for the results. As a result, teachers are
known to "teach to the test": while not teaching the actual answers, they teach the questions and
similar ones, and they neglect any topic that will not be tested on. Teachers may also cheat, so as to
inflate the results of tests given in their classroom.
While cheating practices is a global fact, we wanted to somehow minimized, if not completely
eradicate cheating locally (in our own school) through giving emphasis on this issue. This study
seeks to uncover (a) pertinent cheating practices, and (b) know reasons that throws students to

7. Academic Dishonesty
Most people believe that people will cheat just because they are a dishonest person. Although,
scientists have done studies that have shown that most people will cheat under the right situation. In
James Lang's article "How College Classes Encourage Cheating," Lang states, that 75 percent of
students have at least cheated once while attending college (1). Academic dishonesty is a growing
problem in college and there are many possible ways to fix it. My solutions are improving
plagiarism detection software and using it more often and increasing students' knowledge on honor
code.
Grand View Policy on Academic Dishonesty Grand View University students are asked to sign a
code of integrity before the academic school year. The code of integrity is an agreement between the
student and the university to follow rules and promote academic honesty to make Grand View a
better place to be. The university then defines academic dishonesty as a misrepresentation of
personal efforts and honest work. This includes plagiarism, cheating, fabrication and facilitation of
dishonesty (65–66). For the first occurrence the student is under the discretion of the professor. A
second offense means that the student will be removed and failed from the course and they will also
be put on academic probation. After the third incident, the student will be suspended from the
university and the incident will be recorded on the transcript. Another offense will most likely be
expulsion from the university (67).
Solutions for Academic Dishonesty The first solution to help reduce academic dishonesty is to
implement honor codes and frequently revise them. In the journal Academe, by Donald McCabe
and Linda Klebe Trevino recognize the increase of academic dishonesty. McCabe and Trevino
surveyed 2,200 students at 21 different universities. Nine of the universities did not have an honor
code while the others either had a tradition, hybrid, or a modified code. Of the universities who had
modified codes, 3 of them were large public universities. McCabe and Trevino thought cheating
would be more frequent at these institutions because of their size. McCabe and Trevino found that
was not the case. Of the universities that were surveyed one–third of the

that many institutions of higher education have adopted academic dishonesty policies, instituted
academic integrity tutorial completion prerequisites for next term registration, and acquired
plagiarism software detection tools. They go on to say that within the past few years, high–tech
cheating is gradually replacing the simple cut–and–paste cheating, and educators must be proactive
and develop instructional strategies that integrate all facets of appropriate digital citizenship, that is,
digital ethics. By implementing these academic dishonesty and integrity policies and making them

Academic dishonesty or academic misconduct is any type of cheating that occurs in relation to a
formal academic exercise . It consist of any deliberate attempt to falsify, fabricate or otherwise to
tamper with data, information , records, or any other material that is relevant to students
participation in any course, laboratory, or other academic function. It also include any act, which is
designed to obtain fraudulently either for oneself or for someone else . High school students in
particular conveniently place the blame on others the school, teachers, parents or society
Cheating is a complex issue for most of the students (eg: Michales & Mithe,1989).Discussion about
academic dishonesty are clearly influenced by social and school norms as well as attitude of teacher
and most importantly friends (Mc cabe & Trevion , 1993,1997) there are many children who are
haslital of direct copying material from various sites of internet and present them as their own.
Students who cheat may be getting higher grades than they deserve. For example a survey of high
school teachers found that cheating is partially responsible for grade inflation (Bushneller 1999)
when students see other student cheating and do not see any faculty member and administration
addressing such behaviour they may think that academic dishonesty

10. The Importance Of Academic Dishonesty
Observational research has demonstrated that academic dishonesty is both a pervasive and
developing issue among Australian criminal justice and policing students. Studies have shown that
there are numerous individual attributes and relevant elements that support the pervasiveness of
academic dishonesty. A survey of seventy–nine undergraduate criminal justice and policing students
studying at an Australian university came up with these observations upon statistics. It is evident
from the data that the male gender are the significant predictors of self–reported academic dishonesty
. Australia summons the need to look at academic dishonesty conduct inside the accomplice of future
criminal justice and policing careers. Males inclusion in academic dishonesty might be clarified by
the gender role struggle that happens when males are associated into conventional parts of
manliness, steady stresses over individual accomplishments, disappointment and profession
accomplishments. Females were found to hold significantly higher adverse attitudes towards
cheating than males. These gender contrasts were related with a moderately little impact size. As
opposed to these discoveries on gender, some more reliable outcomes have developed with respect
to how much ethnicity or being from a non–English talking foundation is prescient of academic
dishonesty. It is generally agreed that students from a non–English speaking background are more
likely to engage in academic dishonesty according to

11. Examples Of Plagiarism And Academic Honesty
Plagiarism and academic honesty
Many students are not aware of academic dishonesty. Firstly, academic dishonesty refers to forms of
cheating and plagiarism. In this research paper I am going to describe why students cheat, describe
how extensive the problem is, how can it be prevented, and legal issues concerning Academic
dishonesty. To begin with, academic dishonesty refers to forms of cheating and plagiarism which
results in students giving or receiving unauthorized assistance in an academic exercise or receiving
credit for work which is not their own.
Also, it is a very prevalent question about the reasons students decide to cheat. Although it is
impossible to precisely decide what causes students to cheat there are some factors that can be
examined. Some reasons are as...show more content...

12. Should Cheating Be Academic Dishonesty? Essay
We have all grown up learning that cheating in school would always come with consequences yet
many students continue to cheat. I do not find it surprising that students cheat in college or
university. McCabe, Trevino & Butterfield (2001) offer many explanations as in why students
commit academic dishonesty, such as peer influences. Although the findings of this study still can be
applied today I argue a new study should consider the use of technology in regards to academic
dishonesty. With the rise of technology, it has become much easier for students to cheat on exams
and papers. For instance, people can cheat on exams with the assistance of technology; for
instance, the Apple watch. The Apple watch can be seen as a watch; however, it is like having a
miniature phone on your wrist. The Apple watch makes it easier for students to conceal answers
and cheat on exams. McCabe et al (2001) offered many explanations as to why students commit
academic dishonesty, but I would argue that there are new explanations to help explain this
phenomenon. When I think of academic dishonesty I think of students cheating on exams or
plagiarizing, but this study failed to consider cheating completed over the Internet. If I were to
search for a paper on cybercrime, I could find many written all I would need to do is purchase one.
Finding papers online is simple, but getting caught is even easier, however, many students continue
to purchase papers online. I do agree with the authors that

14. Academic Dishonesty : The Technological Era
Academic Dishonesty: The Technological Era Introduction Academic dishonesty has become a
growing concern for colleges and universities worldwide. The unethical morale students portray
challenges the institutions to question students' motives. According to Kirkpatrick (2015) the
surveys indicate sixty–five to seventy–five percent of college students admit to cheating at least one
time. The numbers rise, due to the advancement of technology, enabling students to cheat
effortlessly. In addition, faculty spends countless hours and energy implementing strategic methods
to prevent and detect academic dishonesty. Furthermore, belligerently addressing academic
dishonesty, overtime, might shift students' perceptions of campus culture (DiVall & Schlesselman,
2016). What is academic dishonesty? According to Sampson & Smith (2015), the definition of
academic dishonesty refers to an intentional act of deceptive behavior in the educational
environment. Academic dishonesty practices include using crib notes, copying from another student
on a test; with or without the individual's permission, using unfair methods to find out in advance
what will be on the test, assist another student to cheat on a test, take an exam for another student,
receive unauthorized assistance on an assignment, turn in another student's work portraying as one's
own, plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other similar unethical behaviors. Plagiarism is using
another 's intellectual property, including ideas,

Academic Dishonesty
Educational untruthfulness is a very bad affair at Ashford University institute. It is any performance
which indecorously influences the assessment of a scholar's educational accomplishment or
attainment. A lot of scholars struggle at some point in their academic careers. During the past weeks
at college in the course of my depression I have displayed educational wrongdoing. It contains, but
is not narrow to, imitation, misappropriation, and misrepresentation. Misappropriation frequently
goes on a scholar's record and this can interfere with their aptitude to relocating to a new college or
go to advanced school. Realizing that I have been set on university trial is alarming and
unsatisfactory. Not only have I failed the...show more content...

16. Analysis of Academic Dishonesty Essay
Abstract
The easier, softer way is not the road less traveled. In this paper, I plan to use myself as a case
study for a look inside the mind of a cheater. I will start out with a definition of academic
dishonesty given by our school and hope to go through some valid excuses used by people who
cheat. I will also look at how further complications and confusion arises by students and teachers
perception of themselves and their role in the problem. I will address the changing culture and how
it can be a useful smokescreen that tries to make cheating a social issue as well as a moral one. I will
use morality to discredit a view that certain forms of dishonesty are more acceptable than others
forms. I hope to end my...show more content...
After all, according to a study in Psychology Today, "Forty to 60 percent of college students today
would cheat if given a chance (Davis, 1992)." If 3 out of every 5 people are cheating and getting
away with it then why does it matter if I cheat occasionally? This method of rationalization is the
root of the problem when dealing with academic dishonesty today. There are so many different
excuses, many sounding very reasonable that it is very to get brainwashed, especially when it is
something a person wants to believe in order to justify wrong actions.
If the lack of morality or the declining deviation of demoralization is the main reason for cheating
then it might be useful to give an explanation of morality. According to M. Oakeshott in an article
from Human Conduct, Morality is a set of manners, customs, and compunctions that govern how
we act and speak in our relationships. We learn morality in the same way we learn a language: by
speaking to others and reacting in turn. Morality is also like a language in that 1.) it utilizes
grammar, 2.) some speak the moral language or act better than others, 3.) it changes with use, and 4.)
there are many different moral dialects.
(1992, p. 92)
Looking at morality from this perspective presents

In the past decade, professors across the country have noticed an alarming new trend–academic
dishonesty is on the rise. More than half of college students surveyed admit to at least one instance
of serious cheating in the past year (McCabe and Pavela). Information is incredibly easy to access on
the Internet, and devices such as iPhones put that power, literally, into the palms of students' hands.
Many students entering universities today face extraordinary amounts of pressure for results
academically, leading them to believe that cheating is necessary to succeed. This mentality is further
cemented by examples in mass media, from professional athletes to CEOs cheating in order to get
ahead. To battle this trend, colleges across the...show more content...
According to Charles A. Perkins, Ph.D. and Anne A. Skleder, Ph.D, "most systems presume that the
great majority are honorable and honest and that the Code is in place to punish violators. This
approach is faulty because it is based upon the (false) presumption that the rules are understood and
built on a foundation well established prior to arriving at college." Students come to college with
bad habits developed in high school regarding their completing their schoolwork honestly. Also,
many already feel that cheating can be justified on a case–by–case basis, so honor codes do not
actually dissuade them from doing it.Also, I do not feel that it is the place of colleges to impose
moral standards on their students. For example, the students at Brigham YoungUniversity face
regulations on every part of their lives, from their academic work, to their personal appearance, to
their sexual expression. According to Stanley Fish in his work Save the World On Your Own Time,
this type of education is not the university's job, "the practices of responsible citizenship and moral
behavior should be encouraged in our young adults, but it's not the business of the university to do
so" (Fish 67). If honor codes tread into this territory, it serves the exact opposite of its intended
purpose. Honor codes made to protect the integrity of the university will actually undermine it when
they try to teach morality. Fish calls professors who try to cultivate

20. The Pros And Cons Of Academic Dishonesty
McCabe has said that an estimated seventy percent of college students have admitted to some type
of cheating. He supports this claim by saying that the parties to blame here is the school system and
the media. HBU defines academic dishonesty to when a student cheats or steals someone's work and
passes it as their own among these are a list of actions that count for academic dishonesty. Some
examples being brought up about dishonesty is how in the NFL saw past the deflating incident in
the Super Bowl were it seems like the media praised the player for his actions (Loschiavo).
Therefor, students think it is correct to do be dishonest in their class work.
The article talks about how the way the school system is set up students are not able to fully write a
complete a research paper. Most of the time an act like this is impulsive, something that is done
without thinking. It is said that teachers are basically taking a short cut by teaching their student the
concept of paraphrasing what they read instead of teaching them how to properly put things in a
context they can explain themselves. The research was done by a Dean who dealt with student
dishonesty for over sixteen years, but yet each student is has different reasons for their acts. McCabe
himself says in the article that cheating can be one of many things such as a cry for help to just not
knowing how to properly cite their resources. Being a fresh out of high school student I often witness
student being told that what they
