About the MHS for
Military Program
Margaret Ann Dimond
Introduction
In addition to a faculty position at Michigan State University,
Margaret Ann Dimond serves as the chief executive officer of
McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. Outside of her work
as an educator and healthcare executive, Margaret Ann Dimond is a
longtime supporter of the Michigan Humane Society (MHS).
With a program that allows veterans to adopt pets for free, MHS for
Military began in early 2018 as a way to provide returning soldiers
with loving companions. No other eligibility criteria are necessary
except proof of honorable military service in the form of a DD 214 or
DD 256 and a valid veteran designation on a state ID card.
Veterans who qualify for a free pet are not limited in the type of
animal they choose or the age of the pet. All of the adoptions come
with spaying/neutering, deworming, and vaccinations. To learn more
