Hope and Healing Through Live Music
BREAD & ROSES is dedicated to uplifting the human
spirit by providing free, high quality live music and
entertainment to people who live in institutions or are
otherwise isolated from society and in doing so, create a
social awareness of those in need.
Our performances:
• enrich the soul and promote wellness through the healing
power of live performances.
• create a sense of community for our professional performers,
in a non-commercial setting in which they can donate their
talents to inspire and be inspired.
THE MISSION
We present over
600 shows
per year for
nearly 32,000
individual
audience
members.
We present high
quality, live
entertainment
in 120
facilities in
8 counties
throughout the
SF Bay Area.
We showcase
the talent and
heart of
1,000
performers and
other
volunteers.
FULFILLING OUR MISSION
BREAD & ROSES serves
isolated individuals of all ages
by bringing free, live
performances to the facilities in
which they reside. These
individuals can be economically
disadvantaged, physically or
mentally disabled, or at-risk.
Among the many things confined
individuals lack is access to the
healing power of the arts. Most
of the individuals in our
audiences have no opportunity—
other than through a Bread &
Roses performance—to
experience the unique,
restorative sensation of being
lifted beyond oneself that is
possible through live music and
other live performance art.

Last year, 120 agencies relied on us for a service that no one else provides and they cannot
afford to replace.
By enhancing the work of those agencies that provide food, shelter, medical care and other
“basic need” services, Bread & Roses places the arts front and center as a vital, life-affirming
aspect of healthy individuals and communities. Bread & Roses provides nourishment for the
heart and soul.

VOLUNTEER SPIRIT
Bread & Roses volunteers light up the lives of others with their voices, guitars, banjos, flutes, cellos,
puppets, keyboards, drums, ballet slippers and more. They host and photograph shows, assist in the
office, design our print collateral, and more! All embody the best of the volunteer spirit and time and
again, enthusiastically tell us that they “get more than they give.” And they give a lot!
