AMAMPEMBE NATION BUILDING
FRAMEWORK DOCUMENT.
INTRODUCTION:
This Framework Document will try to capture a proposed regeneration of the AmaMpembe
Nation. This is an attempt to resuscitate the Kinship within the three house that make up
AmaMpembe Nation. Nala, Nzima and Thabethe. And to restore the royal bloodline that
had not been functioning as a unit for more than 20years.
Based on national needs and the desire to occupy an economic space that will link itself to
the overall National Economic spaces, the mechanisms that will drive the process of
regeneration are therefore economic in nature. The vision of Nation Building can only be
driven and realized by understanding how economics work.
Restoration of Kinship will not be realized unless there is proper and efficient use of
available resources within the group. This is called economy. Restoration of the economy of
AmaMpembe is at the core of the Nation Building.
This process has been energized by a number of events that have taken place since 2015.
These are namely;
1.The Restoration of Kinship event attended by the three houses that constitute
AmaMpembe Nation. At this gathering of 200 representatives, it became clear that this
group was from a Royal Bloodline, based on many references from historical writings. The
gathering then resolved to unite the three houses into a single nation. As it has been in the
beginning, for recognition and effect.
2. An Invitation from His Excellency King Bhungane111 of Embo Kingdom, to Hendrina,
Mpumalanga, April 2016. In which the King of the Embo Kingdom revealed that he has been
sent to restore the Kingship of AmaMpembe, by the Mpembe ancestors.
3. In 2019 Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Mpembe Mayongo Mpembe was one of 12Chiefs of
amaMpembe, that underwent a coronation by His Excellency King Bhungane 111, in Kyalami
Castle, Midrand.
4. November 2021. Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Mayongo Mpembe, was honored by the
University of Kwazulu Natal, an Honorary Doctor Degree in Traditional Community
Leadership and Development.

BRIEF BACKGROUND:
The history of AmaMpembe Kingship can be traced back as early as the 14th Century. Their
origins are from Congo, according to HM Ndawo (Iziduko ZamaHlubi) 1939, and Selby
Hadebe in 1992.
The history includes a vision of a Prince who came from his father’s funeral, King Mpembe.
They lived in an island owned by the Royal family. King Mpembe was very wealthy because
the island was rich in minerals. The name of the Island is Kivu and situated between the
Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
It is not clear what the cause of the death was, of the King. The prince, however, did not
stay home to mourn the death of his father. He left immediately for South Africa. He was
well received by people in South Africa and decided to settle here.
A strange phenomenon then occurred when his clothes changed suddenly into a black priest
gown. He also acquired a fair skin complexion. He had with him, two gifts, the story goes.
One for Royalty and the other for priesthood. This was interpreted as meaning he should
establish a Royal Temple, where Kings and Queens should be ordained by him. To this end
the Mpembe Nation will follow this vision.
In this same vision the ancestors made a declaration to the effect that the current
Paramount Chief Mayongo Mpembe embodies the spirit of the prince. That it is his duty to
ensure that the Temple is built. That his Kingship comes from God. That God has chosen the
Mpembe Royalty to be a blessing to the nations.
Chief Mayongo Mpembe then had another dream where an old man of Royalty was
standing next to a chair. The old man addressed him and pointing to the chair, he indicated
that the chair has been empty for many years. That he himself could not sit on the chair
anymore. The old man then declared that the Paramount Chief has been chosen to be the
one who sits on the chair. The Chief was further instructed to eat fresh crocodile liver and
then presented with a Royal robe made of crocodile skin.
The two visions are indicative of the kind of rule and Royalty that must be observed by the
Mpembe Royal Bloodline. The importance of the spiritual impact that must be made to
society at large is also being emphasized. There is also the acknowledgement of the
leadership of the Mpembe Nation by Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Mayongo Mpembe. And the
significance of the 3rd Coronation on the 23rd April 2022.
The Paramount Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Manyogo Mpembe, has his Great Place in
Phuthaditjhaba. This will be the designated central point of departure and dissemination for
the project processes
He was appointed Secretary General of the AmaMpembe Royal Kingdom in 2015. In 2016
HRH King Bhungane 111 of Embo Kingdom restored the Kingship of AmaMpembe. At the
coronation in 2019, Chief Mayongo Mpembe was issued with a Continental Royal Certificate
as Chief. He will be known as HRH Chief Mayongo Lubelo Mpembe 11 after the 3rd
coronation, to take place on the 23rd April 2022.

Chief Mpembe will lead the Nation Building mandate based on the vision as directed from
the Honorary Doctor Degree bestowed on him by Professor TB Masuku of the University of
Kwazulu Natal. The Community Leadership and Development have been accepted as a clear
call for Nation Building. This fits in the scheme of things for an economic bond to unite the 3
houses of the Mpembe Nation.
The Paramount Chief rules together with the other AmaMpembe Chiefs, who sit with him at
the Royal Kraal and relate with each other through the three houses that make up the
AmaMpembe nation.
The spread of the nation is in all the provinces. The current count of the population is at
200,000 and growing.
The Paramount Chief has recently registered an NPO which will propagate Social
Development and infiltrate the Mpembe population, for self- actualization, self- reliance,
and self- help.
With the failure of numerous development models imposed by the developed upon the
underdeveloped and in the light of the recent failures of unregulated capitalism, mass
unemployment, and excessive debt caused by people and nations living beyond their means,
there is growing interest in developing models and methods that correct the short comings
of too much and too little government control over the economy. In South Africa we are
desperately in need of a feasible and affordable approach to development that has the
potential to create employment and modest prosperity for all our citizens who want and need
to work.
Such a new Africa friendly model of development must harness the potential of the
impoverished rural and urban majorities-particularly the youth and women- to play an active
role in expanding the South African economy. The workless and impoverish who find
themselves trapped and frustrated at the Bottom of the Pyramid need to be challenged and
inspired to play a central role in their gradual political and economic liberation from poverty
and powerlessness.
For this process of self- help liberation to take place it is first necessary for us to accept and
master a radical shift from today’s dominant development paradigm. The top down ‘delivery’
of infrastructure and progress to citizens who wait passively to be developed by public
servants must be replaced by a tough-minded strategy of self- help and community
mobilization and investment. By adopting a developmental model where government,
business, and the people in the communities each accept responsibility for playing an active
role in creating modest prosperity and work for all, there is a chance for the country to escape
the accumulating powerlessness, unemployment and poverty.
The endless pursuit of material advantage, conspicuous consumption and an empty imitation
of the currently faltering societies of the North is today threatening the viability and
traditional capacity of the land-based societies in the remaining rural zones of the planet.

Destructive forms of aggressive urbanization are today undermining the capacity of the 50%
of humanity that is still heavily dependent on the use of indigenous culture and traditional
expertise to feed, shelter energize and secure enough water, care for the sick, raise up healthy
families, and govern themselves peacefully.
A symptom of the cultural confusion and moral malaise that is sapping the vitality of
traditional rural communities is the growing dominance of a world system that privileges
urban values, lifestyles and infrastructure at the expense of rural values, lifestyles and
infrastructure. Rural South Africans are being relegated to the ‘dust bin of history’ as they lose
confidence in themselves, their African culture, and its values as a template for a dynamic
Afro-centric future. Typically, these stresses are manifested in rising crime and vandalism,
promiscuity, suicide and the emergence of extremist forms of politics and religion.
Gone are the days of mutual indebtedness and the strengthening of fabric of a trusting
society. The focus of South African society has shifted from the extended family and the small
community to the individual, money, and material goods. The erosion of family unit has
placed South African society in great peril.
The single issue is not the most important to be addressed, but it is indicative of a society in
rapid transition, in the process of which it is collectively becoming unhappy with the way
things are turning out.
Never has there been so much open dissent, so much organized strife in the labour field, so
much random crime and in the end, so much despair that anything will improve. Land is idle,
yet people clamour for it. The problem most frequently mentioned as being at the root of so
many evils is unemployment among youth. Nature abhors vacuum and idle youth will always
find something to occupy themselves.
Training, employment, and entrepreneurship are the best solutions for this. But apart from
the obvious tactic of attracting foreign investment, there has been no progress toward
reducing the amount of unemployment in the country. The unemployment figure is
approaching 50%.
The strategy being propagated is one that looks at how creating work opportunities and
modest prosperity for all South Africans, can be affordably, and practically and creatively
addressed on a scale that is grand enough to build an economy of almost full employment.
The strategy will be achieved by making more efficient use of funds as well as labour power,
knowledge and skills embodied in people of the country.
It is the thesis of this strategy that a new South Africa will only be built by a highly motivated
work force that offers employment to all its citizens.

RATIONALE
 Economic Growth of any nation is dependent on the ability of individual
communities to meet their own basic needs.
 A community is made up of and dependent upon the collective support of its
members, whose skill and interests reflect and complement each other, through a
creation of many organizations and professions that reflect those interests
 When communities begin to understand the significance of self -reliance, national
economics begin to make sense and become manageable.
 The principle of meeting local, regional, and national needs is realized first from local
resources. Thereafter the benefits of adding value and the re- circulation of money
will be experienced, followed by the role of exports as a means of exchanging values.
 The most important resource of any community is in its people, their skills,
imagination, initiative, and financial potential.
 The promotion of economic and social development of any community starts with
the community identifying its own potential, human and financial. With such
knowledge, a community can attain greater confidence and its capacity to meet its
own economic needs.
 A community can mobilize and take responsibility for its own financial resources for
the generation of greater self- reliant economic activity.
 A Financial Cooperative is an infrastructure that will enable a community to mobilize
its financial resource, thereby discovering its economic value, which can be leverage
for local economic development.
 The reality is that there are plentiful resources of finance for genuine projects. The
issue is the management and accountability of these resources at the point of
delivery.
 The key principle for community economics is that you can appeal for and demand
aid, but investment must be attracted.
 A community-based structure that can link the community to the formal business
and government sector in a commercially viable manner, through which rural and
remote communities could gain access to much needed economic resources is
available through the concept of a cooperative enterprise. The concept is based on
Simplified Business Systems at a low cost; Savings Mobilization Platform; Community
Collaboration; Trading Platform and Member Ownership.
 The sustainability of such a community-based structure depends on the effective
participation of community members, through which ownership and control is
acceptable.

VISION
The vision of Nation Building is derived from the resolution of the 2015 Restoration of
Kinship meeting at Escourt,Mtshezi, edwaleni lakwa Mpembe. The meeting then resolved
that the three houses that constitute amaMpembe must unite and become a nation
because “Mpembe is not a family but a nation.”
The vision of Nation Building is further echoed during the Honorary Doctor Degree
bestowed to the Paramount Chief by the University of Kwazulu Natal in 2021. Encouraging
the path of Traditional Community Leadership and Development.
MISSION
The mission that will drive the vision to a long-lasting reality is based on national economic
and spiritual obligations. It is derived from an understanding that Nation Building can only
be driven by sustainable economic development, strong moral and ethical societal values.
The mission therefore is building a strong economic platform based on savings mobilization
and enterprise development. Built on a foundation of community cooperation and
reciprocal tendencies. Underlined by Trust worthiness and Transparency.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Set up the Great Place Environment to be able to lead and serve the Nation Building
Vision. This to include building of the Temple of Amakhosi.
2. Secure reliable technical and financial partnerships
3. Develop the initial Business Plan.
4. Register a Community Trust
5. Develop systems to engage the three Houses of Mpembe.
6. Get the registered NPO on a Business and Social Development mode.
7. Start Savings Mobilization within those who are aligned to the Great Place.
8. Conduct a population, skills and business audit.
9. Register an NPO for each of the Mpembe Houses
10. Institute savings mobilization with all three Mpembe Houses
11. Secure a banking license
12. Pilot a Cooperative Banking Institution on each of the three Mpembe Houses.
13. Organize the Royal Kraal into a Business Management Structure that links with 3
Houses cooperatively and reciprocally in a commercially and socially viable manner.
14. Build a Social Capital
15. Establish Business Enterprise platform
16. Establish Youth Development Programs

IMPLEMENTATION STRUCTURE
The proposed structure captures the essence of the royal mandate and justifies the need for
the proposed banking structure.
Building the Mpembe Nation is overall intention and Vision.
The Vision came from the Royal Mandate and implicated in the Kingship acknowledgement
and subsequent coronation by King Bhungane 11.
The demand for Tribal Leadership and Community Development is a very clear call for
Nation Building.
Building the nation should flow from the Great Place, housed in a Community Trust to allow
for proper accountability, resource gathering and distribution, in one end. On the other end
is the Head Office which connects Great Place to the House Leaders and subsequently to the
people. It should ensure population growth, effective flow of information and maintenance
of the bonds between the Royalty, the Tribal Leaders, and the nation.
Social Economic Development, and Business Development are two specialized drivers of the
nation building. The two would be fuelled by the Banking Infrastructure, to build and
maintain a Financial Potential that triggers a Developmental Environment to ensure a
sustainable process.

This further connects the process to external economies that would ensure commercially
viable economic interchange. Nations are built and maintained through economic viability.
Commercially viable interchange between economies further strengthens the economies.
The structure shows six cost centres that will require fully qualified and experienced
professionals and a budget, to run efficiently and effectively. These are the Great Place,
Royal Kraal, Community Trust, Social Development, Business Development, Banking
Infrastructure. Their mandate is for Nation Building.
The six cost centres are the gateway for reaching out to the external world for partnerships
and expertise. They should all meet at the Great Place for regular process accounting and
justification.
Nation Building is about people and for the people. The health of any nation can only be
maintained in an environment of good moral and ethical values.
Building a nation is not different from building a Business Empire.
Financial Intelligence will galvanize the people and keep them focussed. Financial Potential
is the determinant for developmental potential. It builds a confidence and self -esteem that
makes people believe in themselves.
Financial and Social Capital are the main ingredients for sustainable Nation Building. Social
Capital is achieved when people believe in themselves.
IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY
Implementation Strategy is embodied in the vision, mission, and objectives.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
1. The Nation Building process will be guided and governed by spiritually inspired
economic values and virtues. It will model a New Corporate Spirit and Culture that
believes that the Business of Business is People and their Quality of Life.
2. This is a call so big even for a fully developed economic environment. It is however a
Call that the AmaMpembe Nation believe they have been called for. Revival and
Regeneration of the AmaMpembe Nation to its full economic and spiritual capacity
as an example for other nations.
3. The Nation Building process will be triggered by some financial profiling, because of
savings mobilization, by those who are ready to upscale kinship to the next level that
leads to economic ties. There can be no Nation Building without economic ties,
within the group. Financial profiling creates economic capacity which attracts foreign
investment.
4. A Cooperative Banking Infrastructure has been recommended. Because of its less
demanding regulatory environment.

5. It allows a pace that is consistent with the development level of the people. At the
same time develops enough financial profiling to pursue economic ties.
6. The committees recently announced by Chief Mayongo Mpembe could be a point of
departure.
7. The third coronation of HRH Chief Mayongo Lubelo Cheelo Mpembe, 23rd April
2022, has released so much hope and positivity within the Mpembe group. It makes
a lot of sense to initiate the Nation Building Process immediately.
CONCLUSION
The economic crises so widely reported seem destined to grow even worse. The inordinate
disparity between rich and poor, a source of acute suffering, keeps the world in a state of
instability, virtually on the brink of war. Why is the world undergoing this unmanageable
condition?
Many contemporary world thinkers, who are leaders and workers in the field of economics,
social policy and politics are enslaved by the temptations of materialism. They propagate
the belief that all problems and difficulties are rooted in economics. Their analysis is
superficial because they lack the courage to look at the real root of disease afflicting the
body of mankind.
“For many walk…. whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, whose glory is in their
shame- who set their minds on earthly things.” Philippians 3:18-19.
The first thing that can be said with confidence about the revolution of our times; it is in
essence spiritual.
All that goes in the name of problems and difficulties are, but the signs and symptoms of
spiritual disease called disunity afflicting the body of humanity.
Humankind as created entity is not only different from the rest of phenomenal creation, but
also its apex, distinct and distinguished from all else because man is created in the image
and likeness of God. Created in the image and likeness of God means that, whereas all other
created things reflect one or more of the signs or qualities of God, human being alone is
empowered to reflect all the signs and qualities of God. The reality of man is that he is the
centre where the glory of all the perfections of God shines forth. All humanity has been
created to carry forward an ever-advancing Kingdom of God (civilization) . This is God’s
purpose for Humankind.
The prerequisites for the fulfilment of this purpose, are spiritual qualities or values such as
purity, devotion, knowledge, contentment, cleanliness, and the like which can be exercised
on an individual or personal basis and thus independent of others. There are other
qualities, such as forbearance, compassion, justice, mercy, loving kindness, etc, which
require that one be in association or relationship with other beings; these are moral
qualities or moral values which are dependent on reciprocal action.

The essential condition, therefore, for human being to attain the object of his existence is
that he must function in association with others, and that human society is the natural
outcome and setting for man to reach his goal. Society is that which expresses the
interdependent and reciprocal nature of humankind.
The challenge for early humanity was the survival of the family; the challenge to modern
humanity is the survival of our society. The one thing that enable us to meet these
challenges of the past and gain victory over them is our capacity for adaptation. This
adaptability of humanity is due to the presence of the divine spirit or ideal divine power
within us. The story of our adaptation therefore is long and wondrous and spiritual. As a
science it is called anthropology or Social Development. Our social adaptability is seen in our
skill for organization.
It is therefore established that man and society need divine spirit as a redemptive catalyst
agent to help fulfil the very purpose of their existence. The human being exists to reflect the
qualities of God; society exist to magnify the perfections of the spirit in an organizational
form, so that perfections of God are manifest in this world.
Social Capital is built on a foundation of high morality and ethical cultural practises.
Cooperation and reciprocation are the main drivers. There is a critical need to restore
spiritual unity within the body of humankind. As Spiritual Unity is the spirit of the body of
humankind, any disruption to this spiritual unity leads to diseases of the body of humanity.
Charity begins at home. So, this is where we start at home and with our children, who are
the next generation. Social Capital is the product of Social Development.
Food for thought: “The human being exists to reflect the qualities of God; society exists to
magnify the perfections of the spirit in an organizational form, so that the perfections of
God are manifested in this world”.
It is the general understanding of people that religion deals with the moral and spiritual
aspects of life, and economics with the material aspect. What is then, the role of religion in
solving economic problems?
Spiritual Solutions of Economic Problems is an answer to this and many other questions.
We believe that all humanity could uphold the core values of; Respect for life, liberty,
justice, equality, mutual respect, caring and integrity. These provide a foundation for
transforming a global neighbourhood based on economic exchange and improved
communications into a universal moral community, in which people are bound together by
more than proximity, interest and identity.
They all derive in one way or another from the principle, which is in accord with religious
teachings around the world, that people should treat others as they would themselves wish
to be treated.
AmaMpembe Nation Building is the revival of this nation from a place of anonymity to
national leadership and trend setting. Nation Building is Identity, Destiny, and Economic
Freedom. It is something that comes from internally where God resides.

The power and mobility will come from those who buy into the vision. Those who sign up as
Builders of The Wall. The numbers will start from one to multitudes. Patience is a virtue
If money is to come from outside. It must join hands with money from the inside and ensure
growth and viability. God’s currency is people and their standard of living. Money will come
from the people first; money is where people are. People will create the wealth. Nation
Building is Wealth Creation. The Biblical story of Nehemiah is an inspiration, we can allow
ourselves to be inspired by.

  • 2. 2 AMAMPEMBE NATION BUILDING FRAMEWORK DOCUMENT. INTRODUCTION: This Framework Document will try to capture a proposed regeneration of the AmaMpembe Nation. This is an attempt to resuscitate the Kinship within the three house that make up AmaMpembe Nation. Nala, Nzima and Thabethe. And to restore the royal bloodline that had not been functioning as a unit for more than 20years. Based on national needs and the desire to occupy an economic space that will link itself to the overall National Economic spaces, the mechanisms that will drive the process of regeneration are therefore economic in nature. The vision of Nation Building can only be driven and realized by understanding how economics work. Restoration of Kinship will not be realized unless there is proper and efficient use of available resources within the group. This is called economy. Restoration of the economy of AmaMpembe is at the core of the Nation Building. This process has been energized by a number of events that have taken place since 2015. These are namely; 1.The Restoration of Kinship event attended by the three houses that constitute AmaMpembe Nation. At this gathering of 200 representatives, it became clear that this group was from a Royal Bloodline, based on many references from historical writings. The gathering then resolved to unite the three houses into a single nation. As it has been in the beginning, for recognition and effect. 2. An Invitation from His Excellency King Bhungane111 of Embo Kingdom, to Hendrina, Mpumalanga, April 2016. In which the King of the Embo Kingdom revealed that he has been sent to restore the Kingship of AmaMpembe, by the Mpembe ancestors. 3. In 2019 Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Mpembe Mayongo Mpembe was one of 12Chiefs of amaMpembe, that underwent a coronation by His Excellency King Bhungane 111, in Kyalami Castle, Midrand. 4. November 2021. Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Mayongo Mpembe, was honored by the University of Kwazulu Natal, an Honorary Doctor Degree in Traditional Community Leadership and Development.
  • 3. 3 BRIEF BACKGROUND: The history of AmaMpembe Kingship can be traced back as early as the 14th Century. Their origins are from Congo, according to HM Ndawo (Iziduko ZamaHlubi) 1939, and Selby Hadebe in 1992. The history includes a vision of a Prince who came from his father’s funeral, King Mpembe. They lived in an island owned by the Royal family. King Mpembe was very wealthy because the island was rich in minerals. The name of the Island is Kivu and situated between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. It is not clear what the cause of the death was, of the King. The prince, however, did not stay home to mourn the death of his father. He left immediately for South Africa. He was well received by people in South Africa and decided to settle here. A strange phenomenon then occurred when his clothes changed suddenly into a black priest gown. He also acquired a fair skin complexion. He had with him, two gifts, the story goes. One for Royalty and the other for priesthood. This was interpreted as meaning he should establish a Royal Temple, where Kings and Queens should be ordained by him. To this end the Mpembe Nation will follow this vision. In this same vision the ancestors made a declaration to the effect that the current Paramount Chief Mayongo Mpembe embodies the spirit of the prince. That it is his duty to ensure that the Temple is built. That his Kingship comes from God. That God has chosen the Mpembe Royalty to be a blessing to the nations. Chief Mayongo Mpembe then had another dream where an old man of Royalty was standing next to a chair. The old man addressed him and pointing to the chair, he indicated that the chair has been empty for many years. That he himself could not sit on the chair anymore. The old man then declared that the Paramount Chief has been chosen to be the one who sits on the chair. The Chief was further instructed to eat fresh crocodile liver and then presented with a Royal robe made of crocodile skin. The two visions are indicative of the kind of rule and Royalty that must be observed by the Mpembe Royal Bloodline. The importance of the spiritual impact that must be made to society at large is also being emphasized. There is also the acknowledgement of the leadership of the Mpembe Nation by Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Mayongo Mpembe. And the significance of the 3rd Coronation on the 23rd April 2022. The Paramount Chief Mdlaedwa Cheelo Manyogo Mpembe, has his Great Place in Phuthaditjhaba. This will be the designated central point of departure and dissemination for the project processes He was appointed Secretary General of the AmaMpembe Royal Kingdom in 2015. In 2016 HRH King Bhungane 111 of Embo Kingdom restored the Kingship of AmaMpembe. At the coronation in 2019, Chief Mayongo Mpembe was issued with a Continental Royal Certificate as Chief. He will be known as HRH Chief Mayongo Lubelo Mpembe 11 after the 3rd coronation, to take place on the 23rd April 2022.
  • 4. 4 Chief Mpembe will lead the Nation Building mandate based on the vision as directed from the Honorary Doctor Degree bestowed on him by Professor TB Masuku of the University of Kwazulu Natal. The Community Leadership and Development have been accepted as a clear call for Nation Building. This fits in the scheme of things for an economic bond to unite the 3 houses of the Mpembe Nation. The Paramount Chief rules together with the other AmaMpembe Chiefs, who sit with him at the Royal Kraal and relate with each other through the three houses that make up the AmaMpembe nation. The spread of the nation is in all the provinces. The current count of the population is at 200,000 and growing. The Paramount Chief has recently registered an NPO which will propagate Social Development and infiltrate the Mpembe population, for self- actualization, self- reliance, and self- help. With the failure of numerous development models imposed by the developed upon the underdeveloped and in the light of the recent failures of unregulated capitalism, mass unemployment, and excessive debt caused by people and nations living beyond their means, there is growing interest in developing models and methods that correct the short comings of too much and too little government control over the economy. In South Africa we are desperately in need of a feasible and affordable approach to development that has the potential to create employment and modest prosperity for all our citizens who want and need to work. Such a new Africa friendly model of development must harness the potential of the impoverished rural and urban majorities-particularly the youth and women- to play an active role in expanding the South African economy. The workless and impoverish who find themselves trapped and frustrated at the Bottom of the Pyramid need to be challenged and inspired to play a central role in their gradual political and economic liberation from poverty and powerlessness. For this process of self- help liberation to take place it is first necessary for us to accept and master a radical shift from today’s dominant development paradigm. The top down ‘delivery’ of infrastructure and progress to citizens who wait passively to be developed by public servants must be replaced by a tough-minded strategy of self- help and community mobilization and investment. By adopting a developmental model where government, business, and the people in the communities each accept responsibility for playing an active role in creating modest prosperity and work for all, there is a chance for the country to escape the accumulating powerlessness, unemployment and poverty. The endless pursuit of material advantage, conspicuous consumption and an empty imitation of the currently faltering societies of the North is today threatening the viability and traditional capacity of the land-based societies in the remaining rural zones of the planet.
  • 5. 5 Destructive forms of aggressive urbanization are today undermining the capacity of the 50% of humanity that is still heavily dependent on the use of indigenous culture and traditional expertise to feed, shelter energize and secure enough water, care for the sick, raise up healthy families, and govern themselves peacefully. A symptom of the cultural confusion and moral malaise that is sapping the vitality of traditional rural communities is the growing dominance of a world system that privileges urban values, lifestyles and infrastructure at the expense of rural values, lifestyles and infrastructure. Rural South Africans are being relegated to the ‘dust bin of history’ as they lose confidence in themselves, their African culture, and its values as a template for a dynamic Afro-centric future. Typically, these stresses are manifested in rising crime and vandalism, promiscuity, suicide and the emergence of extremist forms of politics and religion. Gone are the days of mutual indebtedness and the strengthening of fabric of a trusting society. The focus of South African society has shifted from the extended family and the small community to the individual, money, and material goods. The erosion of family unit has placed South African society in great peril. The single issue is not the most important to be addressed, but it is indicative of a society in rapid transition, in the process of which it is collectively becoming unhappy with the way things are turning out. Never has there been so much open dissent, so much organized strife in the labour field, so much random crime and in the end, so much despair that anything will improve. Land is idle, yet people clamour for it. The problem most frequently mentioned as being at the root of so many evils is unemployment among youth. Nature abhors vacuum and idle youth will always find something to occupy themselves. Training, employment, and entrepreneurship are the best solutions for this. But apart from the obvious tactic of attracting foreign investment, there has been no progress toward reducing the amount of unemployment in the country. The unemployment figure is approaching 50%. The strategy being propagated is one that looks at how creating work opportunities and modest prosperity for all South Africans, can be affordably, and practically and creatively addressed on a scale that is grand enough to build an economy of almost full employment. The strategy will be achieved by making more efficient use of funds as well as labour power, knowledge and skills embodied in people of the country. It is the thesis of this strategy that a new South Africa will only be built by a highly motivated work force that offers employment to all its citizens.
  • 6. 6 RATIONALE  Economic Growth of any nation is dependent on the ability of individual communities to meet their own basic needs.  A community is made up of and dependent upon the collective support of its members, whose skill and interests reflect and complement each other, through a creation of many organizations and professions that reflect those interests  When communities begin to understand the significance of self -reliance, national economics begin to make sense and become manageable.  The principle of meeting local, regional, and national needs is realized first from local resources. Thereafter the benefits of adding value and the re- circulation of money will be experienced, followed by the role of exports as a means of exchanging values.  The most important resource of any community is in its people, their skills, imagination, initiative, and financial potential.  The promotion of economic and social development of any community starts with the community identifying its own potential, human and financial. With such knowledge, a community can attain greater confidence and its capacity to meet its own economic needs.  A community can mobilize and take responsibility for its own financial resources for the generation of greater self- reliant economic activity.  A Financial Cooperative is an infrastructure that will enable a community to mobilize its financial resource, thereby discovering its economic value, which can be leverage for local economic development.  The reality is that there are plentiful resources of finance for genuine projects. The issue is the management and accountability of these resources at the point of delivery.  The key principle for community economics is that you can appeal for and demand aid, but investment must be attracted.  A community-based structure that can link the community to the formal business and government sector in a commercially viable manner, through which rural and remote communities could gain access to much needed economic resources is available through the concept of a cooperative enterprise. The concept is based on Simplified Business Systems at a low cost; Savings Mobilization Platform; Community Collaboration; Trading Platform and Member Ownership.  The sustainability of such a community-based structure depends on the effective participation of community members, through which ownership and control is acceptable.
  • 7. 7 VISION The vision of Nation Building is derived from the resolution of the 2015 Restoration of Kinship meeting at Escourt,Mtshezi, edwaleni lakwa Mpembe. The meeting then resolved that the three houses that constitute amaMpembe must unite and become a nation because “Mpembe is not a family but a nation.” The vision of Nation Building is further echoed during the Honorary Doctor Degree bestowed to the Paramount Chief by the University of Kwazulu Natal in 2021. Encouraging the path of Traditional Community Leadership and Development. MISSION The mission that will drive the vision to a long-lasting reality is based on national economic and spiritual obligations. It is derived from an understanding that Nation Building can only be driven by sustainable economic development, strong moral and ethical societal values. The mission therefore is building a strong economic platform based on savings mobilization and enterprise development. Built on a foundation of community cooperation and reciprocal tendencies. Underlined by Trust worthiness and Transparency. OBJECTIVES: 1. Set up the Great Place Environment to be able to lead and serve the Nation Building Vision. This to include building of the Temple of Amakhosi. 2. Secure reliable technical and financial partnerships 3. Develop the initial Business Plan. 4. Register a Community Trust 5. Develop systems to engage the three Houses of Mpembe. 6. Get the registered NPO on a Business and Social Development mode. 7. Start Savings Mobilization within those who are aligned to the Great Place. 8. Conduct a population, skills and business audit. 9. Register an NPO for each of the Mpembe Houses 10. Institute savings mobilization with all three Mpembe Houses 11. Secure a banking license 12. Pilot a Cooperative Banking Institution on each of the three Mpembe Houses. 13. Organize the Royal Kraal into a Business Management Structure that links with 3 Houses cooperatively and reciprocally in a commercially and socially viable manner. 14. Build a Social Capital 15.   • 8. 8 IMPLEMENTATION STRUCTURE The proposed structure captures the essence of the royal mandate and justifies the need for the proposed banking structure. Building the Mpembe Nation is overall intention and Vision. The Vision came from the Royal Mandate and implicated in the Kingship acknowledgement and subsequent coronation by King Bhungane 11. The demand for Tribal Leadership and Community Development is a very clear call for Nation Building. Building the nation should flow from the Great Place, housed in a Community Trust to allow for proper accountability, resource gathering and distribution, in one end. On the other end is the Head Office which connects Great Place to the House Leaders and subsequently to the people. It should ensure population growth, effective flow of information and maintenance of the bonds between the Royalty, the Tribal Leaders, and the nation. Social Economic Development, and Business Development are two specialized drivers of the nation building. The two would be fuelled by the Banking Infrastructure, to build and maintain a Financial Potential that triggers a Developmental Environment to ensure a sustainable process.
  • 9. 9 This further connects the process to external economies that would ensure commercially viable economic interchange. Nations are built and maintained through economic viability. Commercially viable interchange between economies further strengthens the economies. The structure shows six cost centres that will require fully qualified and experienced professionals and a budget, to run efficiently and effectively. These are the Great Place, Royal Kraal, Community Trust, Social Development, Business Development, Banking Infrastructure. Their mandate is for Nation Building. The six cost centres are the gateway for reaching out to the external world for partnerships and expertise. They should all meet at the Great Place for regular process accounting and justification. Nation Building is about people and for the people. The health of any nation can only be maintained in an environment of good moral and ethical values. Building a nation is not different from building a Business Empire. Financial Intelligence will galvanize the people and keep them focussed. Financial Potential is the determinant for developmental potential. It builds a confidence and self -esteem that makes people believe in themselves. Financial and Social Capital are the main ingredients for sustainable Nation Building. Social Capital is achieved when people believe in themselves. IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY Implementation Strategy is embodied in the vision, mission, and objectives. TERMS OF REFERENCE 1. The Nation Building process will be guided and governed by spiritually inspired economic values and virtues. It will model a New Corporate Spirit and Culture that believes that the Business of Business is People and their Quality of Life. 2. This is a call so big even for a fully developed economic environment. It is however a Call that the AmaMpembe Nation believe they have been called for. Revival and Regeneration of the AmaMpembe Nation to its full economic and spiritual capacity as an example for other nations. 3. The Nation Building process will be triggered by some financial profiling, because of savings mobilization, by those who are ready to upscale kinship to the next level that leads to economic ties. There can be no Nation Building without economic ties, within the group. Financial profiling creates economic capacity which attracts foreign investment. 4. A Cooperative Banking Infrastructure has been recommended. Because of its less demanding regulatory environment.
  • 10. 10 5. It allows a pace that is consistent with the development level of the people. At the same time develops enough financial profiling to pursue economic ties. 6. The committees recently announced by Chief Mayongo Mpembe could be a point of departure. 7. The third coronation of HRH Chief Mayongo Lubelo Cheelo Mpembe, 23rd April 2022, has released so much hope and positivity within the Mpembe group. It makes a lot of sense to initiate the Nation Building Process immediately. CONCLUSION The economic crises so widely reported seem destined to grow even worse. The inordinate disparity between rich and poor, a source of acute suffering, keeps the world in a state of instability, virtually on the brink of war. Why is the world undergoing this unmanageable condition? Many contemporary world thinkers, who are leaders and workers in the field of economics, social policy and politics are enslaved by the temptations of materialism. They propagate the belief that all problems and difficulties are rooted in economics. Their analysis is superficial because they lack the courage to look at the real root of disease afflicting the body of mankind. “For many walk…. whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, whose glory is in their shame- who set their minds on earthly things.” Philippians 3:18-19. The first thing that can be said with confidence about the revolution of our times; it is in essence spiritual. All that goes in the name of problems and difficulties are, but the signs and symptoms of spiritual disease called disunity afflicting the body of humanity. Humankind as created entity is not only different from the rest of phenomenal creation, but also its apex, distinct and distinguished from all else because man is created in the image and likeness of God. Created in the image and likeness of God means that, whereas all other created things reflect one or more of the signs or qualities of God, human being alone is empowered to reflect all the signs and qualities of God. The reality of man is that he is the centre where the glory of all the perfections of God shines forth. All humanity has been created to carry forward an ever-advancing Kingdom of God (civilization) . This is God’s purpose for Humankind. The prerequisites for the fulfilment of this purpose, are spiritual qualities or values such as purity, devotion, knowledge, contentment, cleanliness, and the like which can be exercised on an individual or personal basis and thus independent of others. There are other qualities, such as forbearance, compassion, justice, mercy, loving kindness, etc, which require that one be in association or relationship with other beings; these are moral qualities or moral values which are dependent on reciprocal action.
  • 11. 11 The essential condition, therefore, for human being to attain the object of his existence is that he must function in association with others, and that human society is the natural outcome and setting for man to reach his goal. Society is that which expresses the interdependent and reciprocal nature of humankind. The challenge for early humanity was the survival of the family; the challenge to modern humanity is the survival of our society. The one thing that enable us to meet these challenges of the past and gain victory over them is our capacity for adaptation. This adaptability of humanity is due to the presence of the divine spirit or ideal divine power within us. The story of our adaptation therefore is long and wondrous and spiritual. As a science it is called anthropology or Social Development. Our social adaptability is seen in our skill for organization. It is therefore established that man and society need divine spirit as a redemptive catalyst agent to help fulfil the very purpose of their existence. The human being exists to reflect the qualities of God; society exist to magnify the perfections of the spirit in an organizational form, so that perfections of God are manifest in this world. Social Capital is built on a foundation of high morality and ethical cultural practises. Cooperation and reciprocation are the main drivers. There is a critical need to restore spiritual unity within the body of humankind. As Spiritual Unity is the spirit of the body of humankind, any disruption to this spiritual unity leads to diseases of the body of humanity. Charity begins at home. So, this is where we start at home and with our children, who are the next generation. Social Capital is the product of Social Development. Food for thought: “The human being exists to reflect the qualities of God; society exists to magnify the perfections of the spirit in an organizational form, so that the perfections of God are manifested in this world”. It is the general understanding of people that religion deals with the moral and spiritual aspects of life, and economics with the material aspect. What is then, the role of religion in solving economic problems? Spiritual Solutions of Economic Problems is an answer to this and many other questions. We believe that all humanity could uphold the core values of; Respect for life, liberty, justice, equality, mutual respect, caring and integrity. These provide a foundation for transforming a global neighbourhood based on economic exchange and improved communications into a universal moral community, in which people are bound together by more than proximity, interest and identity. They all derive in one way or another from the principle, which is in accord with religious teachings around the world, that people should treat others as they would themselves wish to be treated. AmaMpembe Nation Building is the revival of this nation from a place of anonymity to national leadership and trend setting. Nation Building is Identity, Destiny, and Economic Freedom. It is something that comes from internally where God resides.

Patience is a virtue If money is to come from outside. It must join hands with money from the inside and ensure growth and viability. God’s currency is people and their standard of living. Money will come from the people first; money is where people are. People will create the wealth. Nation Building is Wealth Creation.
