Definitions
• Menorrhagia is heavy menses in ovulatory women,
• Metrorrhagiais irregular bleeding during an ovulatory cycle
• Menstrual bleeding lasting longer than 7 days or associated
with clotting is common in menorrhagia.
• The average menstrual blood loss is about 40 mL per cycle; any
loss greater than 80 mLis associated with an increased risk of
anemia and is consideredmenorrhagia.
• Uterine leiomyomata, particularly those that distort the uterine
cavity, endometrial polyps, and adenomyosis all have been
associated with menometrorrhagia
