· Mission statement: How did I change my self-concept based on different knowledge bases.
Attention Getter: One day a young person asked his grandfather a question: “ how I will be special person in our life” and he said “ you have to have a special identity” and the young person asked him again “How should I do that?”
The grandfather said: “ Always remember these words, accept no one’s definition of your life, go and define yourself the way you are”.
And you know what? I am the guy who asked this question.

· On the other hand, Is it really important to care about how other people sees us?
Kendra Cherry a Psychology Expert said that: “In social psychology, the reflected appraisal process is considered one of the influences on the development of self-concept. The term refers to a process where we imagine how other people see us. In many instances, the way we believe others perceive us is the way we perceive ourselves”
For instance, one of my close friends said to me that you are spoiled and you do not have a goal in your life, you have to change yourself.
At the same time I know that I am not spoiled a.

· When I talk about the reflected appraisals that I received in

am good handball player, because they chose me to be in the
3. national team. I was able to know that I am a good public
speaker in Arabic, because the people said I did a good job in
many seminars and because of what the people said I kept doing
that behavioraction.

For instance, one of my close friends said to me that you are
spoiled and you do not have a goal in your life, you have to
change yourself.
At the same time I know that I am not spoiled and I have a goal
and I am working very hard to achieve it. Thus, don’t let the
other to lead your life. Because the only thing that breaks our
life is caring about what the people think about us and we stop
listing to ourselves.
I gave the people a big space in my life in matter of making my
decision and I failed.
Although, I feel happy that the only experience that I had in
matter of “reflected appraisals” was the worst moment in my
life. And you know why I am happy? Simply because I learned
the lesson
4. #Social Comparison
Moving to another interesting question, which is “ who you
want to be comparing with?” and the answer is that I preferred
to be comparing with my self in the past. It seems like “me
nowadays vs me in the past”.
The results of this comparison were positive in all the ways,
except one bad thing that I have started smoking.
The journey of changing myself started 3 years ago since I came
here to the united states as scholarship student sponsored by the
ministry of higher education in Kuwait to study as a mechanical
engineering student.
The most important thing that I have changed is the
responsibility and how to avoid being carless and start doing
everything by myself.
And that happened because I am an international student who is
studying abroad and trying his best to adapt with the new
language and the new culture. This is a proof that makes me
really thankful for being here standing on my feet, because if I
wasn’t in this situation I might never learned how to be like
how I am nowadays.
#Self-esteem
I have heard a quote to
Steve job said: Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out
your own inner voice Watzlawik, M. (2014).
It all about your self-esteem that refers to how you feel about
5. yourself?
To me the self-esteem is really high when I talk to myself about
my dreams and am I able to achieve that or not? And the answer
is always “yes”
On the other hand, it is always low when I am talking with my
family members, because whatever your dreams are, they are
caring about you so much and that will make you less confident
of your ability in accomplishing that sometimes.
#What would you like to change? How?
But the good thing is, they keep asking you what you would like
to change in your life and how will you make these changes
happened?
Honestly, I have to change the way of how I am studying
everyday. Add to that, I really want to know how should I
motivate myself in maintain my desire to eat with the workout
program that I follow. And all of these dreams will not be
dreams if I intend to do it and promised myself to get it done. I
need to change my daily routine and start doing some new
things and new challenges and that’s will make our life more
joyful.
I used to adapt with these situations and as I said in the
beginning “ I love to challenge myself everyday”.
3) Conclusion
· The self-concept is what we think about the self; self-esteem,
is the positive or negative evaluations of the self, as in how we
feel about it and that’s why we really have to be carious to
know more about it. (Review + Restate Thesis)
6. · And the most important thing that I have learned after 6 years
since I had the conversation with my grandfather that I told you
guys about it in the beginning, is realizing that your self-
concept is such a major part in shaping me as a human. It shows
me that if I want to be a special person as I asked, it will be all
about my attitude in facing the life. (Return the attention getter)
· So, be always positive and don’t be afraid to change your self-
concept of anything if it is wrong, and always remember that as
a human we can do anything if we believe that there is nothing
impossible, because the word itself said, “ I am possible”.
(Conclude sentence + advice)
Hope you guys enjoyed my speech
Thank you..
