A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He had a dream of becoming a fighter pilot but instead had a career as a scientist with DRDO and played a key role in India's missile development program and nuclear tests. He served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. Kalam made many contributions to society through his work on missiles and space programs, as well as sharing his knowledge with students. He authored many books and was awarded India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna.
