AARON SCHWARTZ
ASSISTANT LOCATION MANAGER
August
  6,
  2015

Dear
  Sir
  or
  Madam:

It
  is
  with
  great
  pride
  that
  I
  have
  been
  asked
  to
  write
  a
  letter
  of
  recommendation
  for

James
  McNulty.
  I
  have
  had
  the
  pleasure
  to
  introduce
  James
  to
  the
  film
  industry
  here

in
  South
  Florida.
  This
  past
  year,
  James
  joined
  us
  in
  the
  locations
  dept.
  on
  the
  HBO

Series
  “Ballers”.
  Although
  he
  had
  very
  little
  experience
  at
  the
  time,
  I
  was
  impressed

by
  his
  ability
  to
  pick
  up
  information
  and
  come
  up
  with
  ideas
  quickly.

In
  the
  Film
  industry,
  the
  locations
  department
  is
  responsible
  for
  scouting
  locations

(photography),
  clearing
  the
  filming
  locations
  and
  nearby
  areas
  for
  support,
  finding

parking
  for
  20
  plus
  trucks
  and
  trailers,
  Hiring
  Police
  and
  security,
  traffic
  control,

getting
  city
  permits,
  notifying
  neighbors
  (sometimes
  signatures),
  and
  many
  other

things
  that
  come
  up
  based
  on
  the
  location.
  Needless
  to
  say,
  this
  is
  not
  just
  a
  desk
  job.

Everyday
  offers
  a
  new
  task
  and
  new
  problems
  that
  need
  to
  be
  addressed.

James,
  of
  course,
  started
  with
  small
  tasks
  such
  as
  requesting
  and
  delivering
  checks,

notifying
  neighbors
  and
  absorbing
  a
  great
  deal
  of
  information
  that
  would
  cause

most
  young
  people
  to
  be
  overwhelmed.
  By
  the
  3
  month
  of
  production,
  James
  was
  on

set
  helping
  run
  the
  location.
  Not
  only
  was
  he
  a
  huge
  help
  in
  getting
  permits
  and

prepping
  neighborhoods,
  he
  seemed
  to
  be
  willing
  to
  do
  more.
  James
  did
  not
  flinch

when
  asked
  to
  drive
  2
  counties
  away
  regularly
  and
  work
  12
  plus
  hours
  a
  day.
  He

was
  eager
  to
  be
  involved
  and
  gave
  the
  job
  everything
  he
  had.
  After
  “Ballers”
  I
  hired

him
  for
  a
  couple
  days
  on
  the
  USA
  Series
  “Graceland”
  and
  he
  ran
  circles
  around
  our

other
  Location
  assistant.
  I
  would
  have
  kept
  him
  had
  he
  not
  left
  for
  school.

Unfortunately
  for
  us,
  James
  is
  destined
  for
  bigger
  things
  and
  won’t
  be
  in
  Miami
  for

our
  next
  season.
  I
  know
  this
  was
  a
  stepping-‐stone
  in
  his
  young
  career,
  but
  I
  would

hire
  him
  again
  in
  a
  heartbeat
  if
  he
  were
  in
  town.
  His
  intelligence,
  passion
  for

learning,
  calmness
  under
  pressure,
  and
  willingness
  to
  jump
  into
  something
  new
  are

all
  qualities
  that
  I
  feel
  will
  make
  him
  successful
  in
  whatever
  he
  does
  next.
  I
  expect

that
  one
  day,
  I
  will
  be
  working
  on
  a
  show
  that
  he
  has
  written.

Sincerely,

Aaron
