- I am interested in painting more than a just a pretty picture, I am trying to find how a place feels, looking for an experience. In order for me to paint I need to experience the place, my work is a continuation of this search. The following 14 watercolors were produced on a 4 day hike into the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. They range in size from 5”x7” to 8”x10” small by necessity, we had to pack food and shelter then add painting supplies on that.
- This is an image of the show after the hike. In total there were 32 images at the show.
- Top, “Evening with the Tetons”, watercolor on board , This painting was done after experiencing a storm and sunset at Grand Teton National Park. Bottom left, “Mountain Grandeur” oil on canvas 4’x4’ this painting was done after the hiking trip, I painted it from memory, sketches, notes and looking at my other paintings. Bottom right, Palouse storm, trying to capture the way the fields of wheat feel just before the storm.
- Estes Park Plein-Air, these two paintings are 8”x10” oil on panel. I attended a juried painting competition in Colorado where the painters arrive with blank canvasses, have them stamped with an official stamp then bring them back a week later for a show. The images are not the best as they were still wet when I took the photo. 37 degrees and rainy was an attempt to capture the experience of rocks, cold, and rain of being at 12000’ above see level. Morning Headlines was done at 6:30am as the light hit the bright colors of newspaper stands.
