Dolphins live in tropical waters between 45 degrees north and south of the equator. They have a diet consisting of fish, squid, crustaceans and shrimp, eating around 4-5% of their body weight daily. Dolphins are 20 feet long and weigh 440 pounds on average. Females give birth after a 12 month pregnancy, usually to one calf every two years. Newborn calves weigh around 44 pounds and are 42-52 inches long. Dolphins display special behaviors like swimming up to 40 km/hr, diving to depths of 500 meters, using echolocation to find food, and jumping heights of 16 feet.
