A unique event focusing on copper’s re-use and recycling industry dynamics
Scrap and recycling remain very much on the
radar screens ofthe copper industry chain. With
close to 40% ofthe copperconsumed eachyear
coming from secondary sources, it is difficult to
ignore the dynamics and influence of copper
scrap, all the more so at this time when the
overall market has tipped into a marginal
surplus.Copperscrapiskeytoindustrybalances,
itisavitalsourceofrawmaterialforfabricators,
ingot makers, smelter and refiners, bringing
energy savings and resource efficiencies. Even
miners and primary metal producers are keenly
aware today of the strong interaction between
scrap availability and metal prices, TC/RCs and
blisterand cathode premiums.
But the copper recycling value chain is becoming
increasingly complex and challenging. As more
companies seek to boost their usage of scrap and
secondary feeds, there is an increasing need for
unambiguous information on scrap types and flows, for
improved collection systems, processes and
technologies, new trading partners and investment
sources. Metal Bulletin Events’ Copper Recycling
Conference provides just the focused, informative forum
in which to address these needs.
Moving this year to Scandinavia – a region long at the
forefront of recycling as part of environmental
protection, the Copper Recycling Conference will home
in on the drivers, challenges and opportunities facing the
copper, copper alloy and electronic scrap generating,
processing and consuming business.

Pre-conference field trip
Boliden Rönnskär has been processing
recycling materials since the 1960s, and is
todayaworldleaderinthissector.Itscopper
smelter at Rönnskär has the capacity to
handle a vast range of raw materials,
including an ever-growing percentage of
recycling materials.
Scrapped and collected electronic products
have accounted for the biggest increase in
material type in recent years, primarily in
the form of circuit boards from computers
and mobile phones, etc. Uniquely, Boliden
has developed the Kaldo technology –
originally used in the steel industry in the
1940s –to smelt electronic scrap.
The smelted scrap, known as black copper,
isintegratedwiththesmelter'smaincopper
flow for further refining and the extraction
of copper and precious metals. An E-Kaldo
plant commissioned in 2012 complements
the existing Kaldo plant, yielding a
combined annual production capacity of
120,000tonnes.

Preconferencefieldtrip toBolidenRönnskär’s e-scrapandcopper smeltingplants A unique event focusing on copper’s re-use and recycling industry dynamics
  • 2. Scrap and recycling remain very much on the radar screens ofthe copper industry chain. With close to 40% ofthe copperconsumed eachyear coming from secondary sources, it is difficult to ignore the dynamics and influence of copper scrap, all the more so at this time when the overall market has tipped into a marginal surplus.Copperscrapiskeytoindustrybalances, itisavitalsourceofrawmaterialforfabricators, ingot makers, smelter and refiners, bringing energy savings and resource efficiencies. Even miners and primary metal producers are keenly aware today of the strong interaction between scrap availability and metal prices, TC/RCs and blisterand cathode premiums. But the copper recycling value chain is becoming increasingly complex and challenging. As more companies seek to boost their usage of scrap and secondary feeds, there is an increasing need for unambiguous information on scrap types and flows, for improved collection systems, processes and technologies, new trading partners and investment sources. Metal Bulletin Events’ Copper Recycling Conference provides just the focused, informative forum in which to address these needs. Moving this year to Scandinavia – a region long at the forefront of recycling as part of environmental protection, the Copper Recycling Conference will home in on the drivers, challenges and opportunities facing the copper, copper alloy and electronic scrap generating, processing and consuming business. 17-19 June 2014 • Sheraton Hotel, Stockholm, Sweden Copper 3rd RecyclingConference Who should attend? lScrap generators and processors lCoppersmelters and refiners – both primary and secondary lIngot producers, alloymakers andfabricators and mills lTraders and merchants ofscraps and residues lEquipment andtechnologysuppliers lRecycling and dismantling companies lOriginalelectronic equipment manufacturers lEnvironmentalauthorities lFinanciers, legislators, end-users of copperproducts lCollection andtransportation companies lAlex Stewart International Corp lAlterTrading Corp lAnamet SA lAndritz Maerz GmbH lAtlantic CopperSLU lAurubisAG lAusmelt – OutotecTSL lBipromet SA lBIR lBoliden CommercialAB lBulk ID lCNAMetals Limited lCodelco Kupferhandel GmbH lContinuus Properzi SpA lCoprim Ingenieria SA lCunext CopperIndustries SL lDowa Metals & Mining Co Ltd lEburyPartners UK Ltd lElkem GmbH lElmet SLU lEMR Ltd lEurope Metals BV lEuropean Commission DG Enterprise and Industry lEuropean Electronics RecyclersAssn (EERA) lFraunhoferISI lGlencore lGlobal Metal Ltd lGrupo IUSA lHalcorSA lHaldorTopsoeAS lHewlett Packard GmbH lHydromet Ltd lIFCM Metals & Materials GmbH lIMN Gliwice lIndumetal Recycling SA lInspectorate International Limited lInstitute ofNon-ferrous Metals lInternational Copper StudyGroup lInternational Wrought CopperCouncil lISRI – Institute ofScrap Recycling Industries lJean Goldschmidt International SA lJGI – Jean Goldschmidt International SA lJX Nippon Mining & Metals Corp – Recycling & Environmental Services Gp lKGHM Legnica Copper Smelter& Refinery lKGHM Metraco SA lKGHM Poland lKME Group lLa Farga Group lLoackerRecycling GmbH lLondon Metal Exchange lMacquarie Capital (Europe) Ltd lMetal Solution Provider lMetallic Media Limited lMetallo Chimique NV lMetallum Group BV lMetso RBL lMinmetals UK Ltd lMitsui & Co Europe Plc lMontanwerke Brixlegg AG lNicico lNord Schrott Gmbh & Co KG lOrient International Group lPan Pacific Copper lParanapanema SA lPiraiki Metal SA lPrime Materials Recovery lRecupyl lRecyclage Recuperation Magazine lRecycling International lSarkuysanAS lScholz RecyclingAG & Co KG lSGS GermanyGmbH lSiegfried Jacob Metallwerke GmbH & Co KG lSims Metal ManagementAsia Ltd lSteinert Elektromagnetbau GmbH lStewart Group lTangentTrading Ltd lThe UniversityofTokyo lThermo FisherScientific lThomson Reuters lThyssenKrupp Metallurgical Products GmbH lTom Martin & Company lTriland Metals Ltd lUmicore Precious Metals Refining lVan Heyghen Recycling – Group Galloo lVoss International lWestTech lWood Mackenzie Ltd lXstrataTechnology Companies previously attending “Wellorganised-professional yetfriendlyenvironment.” Iram Owda, Trader, Orient InternationalGroup “Diverseandwell balancedprogramme.” GerardoAlvear, Principal Metallurgist, XT– a Glencore company 5% 7% 7% 82% Companies attending in 2013 by region Companies attending in 2013 by Job Title CEO / MD 42% Finance 15% Trading 15% Sales & Marketing 13% Procurement 10% Logistics 3% Analyst 2%

Scrapped and collected electronic products have accounted for the biggest increase in material type in recent years, primarily in the form of circuit boards from computers and mobile phones, etc. Uniquely, Boliden has developed the Kaldo technology – originally used in the steel industry in the 1940s –to smelt electronic scrap. The smelted scrap, known as black copper, isintegratedwiththesmelter'smaincopper flow for further refining and the extraction of copper and precious metals. An E-Kaldo plant commissioned in 2012 complements the existing Kaldo plant, yielding a combined annual production capacity of 120,000tonnes.
