began their lives rather humbly.

the occupation of the district by Australian aborigines,
whose ancestors came to Australia between 45,000
and 60,000 years ago.

5. Melbourne began as a settlement that lacked official
sanction and subsequently broke away from New South
Wales.

6. Both cities grew from these humble beginnings, to
each become a thriving metropolis in its own right.
