The 2G spectrum scandal in 2008, involving then Telecommunications Minister A. Raja, was the largest political corruption case in modern Indian history. The CAG found Raja personally responsible for allocating 2G spectrum at substantially undervalued prices, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs. 1.7 lakh crore to the exchequer. Raja ignored advice from the PM, law and finance ministries in allocating licenses to several companies that did not meet eligibility criteria. Criminal investigations and actions were initiated against Raja by the CAG and CBI.
