2. Background
• The National Health Education, Information and
Communication Centre (NHEICC) is the responsible
body under MoH for planning, implementing,
monitoring and evaluating Nepal’s health promotion,
education and communication programmes including
periodic surveys and research.
• The scope of the centre is guided by the National
Health Communication Policy, 2012 following the
National Health Policy, 2014, communication
strategies and other health related plans and policies.

3. • The centre supports health programmes and
services to achieve national health goals and the
SDGs.
• The centre is the lead for all health promotion,
education and communication programmes
including multi-sectoral health initiatives.

4. Major Policies
• Implement health communication programmes in a
decentralized manner.
• Provide continuity to planning and implementation of
communication programmes of all health services and
programmes.
• Allocate at least two percent budget of MoH’s annual
budget for health communication programmes.
• Promote participation, coordination and cooperation
of relevant organizations and stakeholders in health
communication programmes.

5. • Regulate, control and ban the dissemination of
messages and information that can adversely
affected human health or is exaggerated,
misleading or unauthorized.

8. Major Achievements
• The NHEICC improved the physical achievement of its
IEC programme in the last three years to achieving 96
percent physical progress in 2072/73 . It spent 72.5
percent of its budget in the reporting year.

9. • A total of 1,334,529 copies of print materials
were developed and distributed in the reporting
year and there were 16,296 broadcasts of audio-
visual health messages and 66,107 broadcasts of
audio health messages.
• At least 38 inter-personal communication
activities were conducted in different districts
targeting different audiences.
