Julius Caesar was a great warrior and ruler of Rome who was suspected by senators Brutus, Cassius, and Caius of becoming too powerful. The conspirators, led by Brutus and Cassius, assassinated Caesar on the Ides of March. After Caesar's death, Mark Antony gained control of the government and joined with Octavius Caesar and Lepidus to defeat Brutus and Cassius in the civil war that followed.
