The industrial revolution and advances in information technology over the last century have radically changed lifestyles but also led to new problems of pollution and contamination from poor waste management. Improper disposal of electronic waste (e-waste), in particular, is a major issue across the globe, as landfilling of computer waste produces leachates that pollute groundwater and melting computer chips releases acids that acidify soil if dumped on land. This book surveys industries in India on their awareness of e-waste management rules and finds that while modernization has increased e-waste production, many industries are not properly dealing with e-waste.
