8.2 Murder Gregory O. Wilson, who had been arguing earlier in the day with his girlfriend, Melissa Spear, later set her on fire in her car and walked away. Spear was transported to a hospital with third- degree burns. She remained in a coma for 45 days but was transported home before dying there, nine months after the incident. The state of Ohio brought murder charges against Wilson. Wilson argued that he was not liable for murder because there was not sufficient causation between Wilsons act of setting Spear on fire and Spears death nine months later to warrant a conviction for murder.
