Developing an Open Data initiative: Lessons LearnedAndrew Stott
This document provides lessons learned from the first 3 years of the UK's Open Data initiative, data.gov.uk. It discusses establishing leadership and political support. It emphasizes making data open by default, in reusable formats with clear licensing. Success requires a passionate team, engaging developers and citizens to provide feedback and improve data quality. The initiative focused on high-value datasets and saw over 9,300 datasets and 37GB of geospatial data published. Measuring impact and continuously engaging stakeholders is important to sustain the open data ecosystem.

O365Engage17 - Smart Email Migration Knowing What’s Lurking in the ‘Dark Corn...NCCOMMS
The document discusses the challenges of personal storage table (PST) files during an email migration to Microsoft Office 365. PST files were commonly used to store emails offline or move emails, but they are now problematic due to risks around security, compliance, and resilience. The document provides recommendations for identifying all PST files during a migration, determining ownership of the files, importing the data to Office 365, and cleaning up leftover PST files after migration. It also introduces tools from Microsoft and Quadrotech that can assist with the PST migration and elimination process.
ODI Node Vienna: Best Practise Beispiele für: Open Innovation mittels Open DataMartin Kaltenböck
Vortrag im Rahmen des Data Pioneers Workshop am 10.10.2016 am BMVIT zum Thema Open Innovation und Open Data (Open Innovation mittels Open Data) seitens Elmar Kiesling (TU Wien) und Martin Kaltenböck (SWC) für den ODI (Open Data Institute) Node Vienna.
The document discusses next steps for open data globally. It notes that while over 1600 open data portals now exist, some data remains fairly useless or boring. To maximize the value of open data, governments should prioritize high-value datasets, support business innovation, improve underlying data quality, transition from static portals to application programming interfaces (APIs), and integrate open data with digital government initiatives to realize efficiency gains. Key priorities include conducting data inventories, releasing data to enable smart nations, capturing more evidence of open data's benefits rather than just measuring compliance.
2019 02-26 Data in the News Room - kristofer sjoholmKristofer Sjöholm
This document discusses statistical methods and data visualizations used for coverage of the 2018 Swedish election. It describes developing a voting advice application (VAA) to engage citizens and increase turnout, especially among young people. Over 4 million Swedish voters used the VAA. The presentation emphasizes the importance of collecting political data and questions from local parties, testing interfaces, and telling stories with interactive maps and tools allowing users to explore election results and build hypothetical political majorities.

The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.
State of Artificial intelligence Report 2023kuntobimo2016
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a multidisciplinary field of science and engineering whose goal is to create intelligent machines.
We believe that AI will be a force multiplier on technological progress in our increasingly digital, data-driven world. This is because everything around us today, ranging from culture to consumer products, is a product of intelligence.
The State of AI Report is now in its sixth year. Consider this report as a compilation of the most interesting things we’ve seen with a goal of triggering an informed conversation about the state of AI and its implication for the future.
We consider the following key dimensions in our report:
Research: Technology breakthroughs and their capabilities.
Industry: Areas of commercial application for AI and its business impact.
Politics: Regulation of AI, its economic implications and the evolving geopolitics of AI.
Safety: Identifying and mitigating catastrophic risks that highly-capable future AI systems could pose to us.
Predictions: What we believe will happen in the next 12 months and a 2022 performance review to keep us honest.
