By the end of the year, injury and radiation brought total estimated casualties to 140,000. Approximately 69% of the city's buildings were completely destroyed, and about 7% severely damaged.

39. The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks
ordered by Harry Truman, President of the United States, against the Empire
of Japan. The attacks took place on 6 and 9 August 1945, and put an end to
World War II. After six months of intense bombing of 67 other cities, the
nuclear weapon Little Boy was released on Hiroshima on August 6 lunes1
1945.2 followed by the detonation of the Fat Man on Thursday, August 9 on
Nagasaki bomb. To date these are the only nuclear bombing attacks
history.3
It is estimated that by the end of 1945, the bombs had killed 140,000 people
in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki, 4 although only half had passed the
days of the bombings. Among the victims, 15 to 20% died from injuries or
illness attributed to poisoning radiación.5 Since then, some other people
have died from leukemia (231 observed cases) and various cancers (334
observed) attributed to exposure to radiation released by bombas.6 in both
