4. Reacting to the site, the site
plan uses the existing forests
and site opening to determine
the placement of the mainte-
nance campus. The existing
water treatment plant is one
of the maintenance team’s
responsibilities, and was the
primary reason to place the
maintenance campus right
next to it. However, I did not
want to create an industrial
corridor along Tissue Lane, so
I kept the service drive behind
the water treatment plant and
all other elements hidden be-
hind natural elements. Keeping
Tissue Lane pristine for the
hiker’s experience, is another
main goal of the project; I used
trees and low profile dry fit
stone walls to create this effect.

6. WESTCOTT HOUSE
MASTERPLAN
IN THIS MASTERPLAN SCHEME, THE DESIGN INTENTION CENTERED AROUND THE IDEA OF CREATING
SOMEWHAT OF A SMALL CIVIC COMPLEX OF SORTS WITH THE NEW CONSTRUCTION AND THEN POSED
ALONGSIDE THE EXISTING BUILDINGS ON SITE. THE EXISTING BUILDINGS RECEIVE FACELIFTS AND AR-
CHITECTURAL INSERTIONS TO HELP CREATE A UNIFIED ARTS COMMUNITY.
THE NEW CONSTRUCTION IS ON A PLINTH OF SORTS THAT CASCADE DOWN TO A COURTYARD THAT IS
CREATED BY A RETAINING WALL THAT IS BASED ON LINES OF WARP AND WOOF OFF THE EXISTING AND
NEW BUILDINGS. THE KISHO KUROKAWA TEA PAVILION IS THEN PULLED AWAY FROM THE CIVIC COM-
PLEX, BUT CONNECTED BY A RAISED BRIDGED LEADING TO THE SIMPLE BUILDING.
THE MECHANICS HOUSES, I AM PROPOSING TO BE CHANGED THE MOST. TAKING ALL INTERIOR PARTI-
TIONS OUT OF THE SPACE TO CREATE A FREE FLOWING CLASSROOM/STUDIO ENVIRONMENT THAT
GETS MUCH DAYLIGHTING FROM THE CLERESTORY AND LARGE WINDOWS/FRENCH DOORS AT THE
EAST AND WEST WALLS. THE GROUND FLOOR WOULD FUNCTION MORE AS THE CLASSROOM SPACE,
AND THE FIRST FLOOR WOULD BE THE STUDIO/WORKSPACE.
THE PLAN OF THE AUDITORIUM/CONFERENCE SPACE IS NOT DESIGNED, BUT JUST AN IDEA OF HOW AN
ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTION COULD FIT INTO THE IDEA OF THE TERRACES/PLINTH. THE GARAGE OF THE
I-HOUSE BECOMES A FLAT ROOF WITH A PERGOLA ON TOP WITH RETRACTABLE FABRIC ROOFING. THIS
IDEA IS ALSO USED IN THE DESIGN OF THE TEMPORARY PAVILION. THE FABRIC CIRCLES AROUND THE GROUNDPLAN WESCOTT MASTERPLAN
EXTERIOR AND OPENS THE VIEW BACK OVER THE GARAGE UP TO THE WESTCOTT HOUSE, AND IS ALSO SCALE: 1/16” = 1’-0”
PROVIDED PRIVACY BY THE FABRIC AND THEN THE AUDITORIUM/CONFERENCE SPACE AS WELL.
